I've tried for three hours to get my Logitech controller working in Wing Commander 3, but to no avail. The controller works just fine in the menu, but I cannot use it in the game, even though I set the control mode to "joystick" in the in-flight options menu. I think it needs to be calibrated, but there's the catch: when I move the controller or press any button , the calibration window instantly disappears (just if I had pressed a button on the keyboard).

The funny thing is : in the "older, less advanced" WC 1-2 my controller worked just fine...

(I've also tried this method - https://www.gog.com/forum/wing_commander_series/wing_commander_3_xbox_360_pad_config_guide - , but it didn't work, because every button of the contoller always remained bound to "fire guns/missiles", despire every attempt to rebind them in the DOSBOX menu.)

Could anyone offer a solution? Thanks in advance! :)

Look for a Config file called dosboxWC3 look for a line joystick and try setting timed to false.
Also run the launch setttings and select Thrustmaster as the control. Also you can try setting the control from auto to thrustmaster.

Sometimes the game will try and default to see the mouse as the controller for some reason.

Any luck on this? I have exactly the same issue and nothing works, including messing with the conf file and changing timed to false or true, or adding -i after wc3.exe. Thank you!!

I have a 3d extreme and have had success with these settings in the dosbox config files:

joysticktype=fcs
timed=false
autofire=false
swap34=true
buttonwrap=false
It's quite frustrating here. I have a Saitek / Logitech X52 pro and also use the weitd logitech G software for programming/mapping keys with buttons.
First, the logitech software doesn't work - even in the demo part of it, the keys are not triggered, which I have mapped. And in the game only the configuration for flightstick works a bit, but only the direction, the fire and the missile function can be controlled with my X52. The rest of the buttons is just dead.

This might work. I have a different Lgtech controller but the same software and I was having fun with it as well. In a separate DOSBOX window I did the line command dosbox -erasemapper and then did dosbox -resetmapper (I can't remember which I did first unfortunately). Then all worked for me. I'm just not sure HOW it did. Hope it works for you.

Note: if you're programming the hat in any way, the joystick settings must be set to Thrustmaster in both the dosbox config & the game config or the hat won't work at all.

OK, thanks, need to try it.
I will put this here too as it seems applicable.

Setting timed=false in the .conf will generally also help making joystick input better.
In WC3 there is an in-flight menu you can access with "Alt-O". In this menu the default in-flight control was set to "mouse" by default. Likely some kind of error related to DOSbox or Win10 or something.

Switch the setting and youre good to go. Took me a few days to figure it out.
