Maybe I don't have this issue because I calibrated the joystick at the start menu? This is in Wing Commander 1.

I don't get full movement until I move the stick all the way.

I guess the game remembers the joystick settings so unless I re-install the game, I might not be able to get the behaviour your mention.

timed=true is what I use. I heard of issues with this setting and that false should be used, but I haven't run into issues.

I also changed the cycle speed to fixed 3000
