I've been playing on a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate edition system and think it is stable enough to play the campaign. There have been occasional crashes, but nothing frequent. The only precaution I would recommend is save the game every 15-20 minutes on the really large maps, where a crash just before you win would be frustrating.

I agree with subversified, in case you would like multiple voices. Also Win7 64-bit ultimate here.

I probably have a crash less than once per 5 full "missions" on average .... I'm a compulsive saver because of habits built up in less-stable games, and find WB3 very stable.

The most frequent bug I encounter (perhaps once per 4 missions) is sound effects (including unit speech) turning themselves off when I have a large, diverse group of units. Mildly annoying, but easily played through. Simply turning sound effects back on may or may not stick right away. Restarting usually fixes it.

Crashes would be the next most likely, but (as indicated above), are quite infrequent.

The next-most-frequent bug, just mentioned on another thread, is for healing to stop working - it's rare, but recurring. Easily fixed once noticed. Save, reboot, reload.
WBC (2, 3) do both crash from time to time, but both are known to run on W7, 8 and 10 (64x)
For W7 I would probably try WXP virtual machine, but only in case there will be too many crashes (what I don't expect)

Generally helps to set compatiblity to WXP SP2 and "run as admin", sometimes even this is not needed.

When I play like 3 hours in a row, map after map, both WBC 2 or 3 tend to crash on me, but I do save often (ALT+S) and after I reload, I always can finish respective map and play another 2-3 hours.
# of creatures + structures have something to say on the crash ratio (sometimes I created huge maps, put there tons of units and a lot of buildings, hoping for extra XP, but when I selected enemy AI Warlord or Emperor, and AI started to calculate all the paths and whatsnot, BAM! Also the fact that I am not a map creator pro has something to with it too :D)
Anyway, WBC 3 is a safe choice on Win 7 64x

(I play this game and it's mods for some years, I had W7 before and played WBC 3 a lot, now I have W8 64x and it runs just fine, despite the few rare crashes, only on GOG i have 21 hours played)
