Hello, I'm running this game on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. This game used to work just fine, I'm not sure what happened but it stopped functioning correctly. The issue that I have is that the game literally runs at 1 frame per second. I've tried everything from setting compatibility, setting affinity (which processor core to use), re-installing the game, updating video card drivers, restarting computer, nothing seems to fix the issue. I'm at a loss now I'm not sure what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

What is your in-game resolution selected?
Also make sure that the game is not installed in directories like "Program_Files", where Windows likes to set "read-only" to whole folders.
I run it on W8 64-bit, had the problem when I selected the highest possible resolution, when I set the middle option, game did run just fine (sometimes crashes to OS, usually during long fights in complex campaign maps)
I use Windows XP SP2 compatibility and "Run as Administrator" and I had to move the GOG installation folder under C:\Games

Anyway, I still cannot play Ironman, first the game did crush on me during map-play (what kills the hero as the games considers such "exit" as lost fight.. and after I won using ingame saves ALT+S, I even made first level, selected Mage and wanted to play next scenario... the hero was gone... so the game has it's issues, but so far it runs fast and renders graphics properly)

I set the resolution to 1280x1024 which is able to display on 1080p monitors and the resolution in the menu is different, but the game always seems to run very sluggish. I'll try installing it somewhere else like you said, hopefully that will work.

EDIT: I tried installing it on 3 different drives and I'm still having the same issue

I just recently managed to run WBC2 in DXWnd, but DXWnd has really crazy settings (the the default settings did crash the game or the game did not start at all)
Tried also the WBC3 premade file (IMPORT function) that came with the tool, but it also did not work well (after I updated the paths and everything to match WBC3)
Anyway, DXWnd has one extra option: to run older and old games on new OSystems, run them smoothly AAAND it has implemented "Speed up" option [Modify -> Timing, Time Stretch , allowing 16x slower and 16x faster rendering)

Well, you did the usual stuff (Compatibility: WXP SP2, Run as Admin, reinstalled in other Folders)

For me WBC 2 runs now fine, only crashes when there are too many active units/buildings active (ALT+S from time to time helps here, as I never experienced hard-crash = crash that happens on the same spot for 100%, only random crashes, so reloading made sense)

I tried booting with DXWnd and it sort of works now, but whenever I select my hero the game crashes which I've never encountered before. What are your settings for it in DXWnd?
I am trying various combos, as none did work 100% successfully so far.
I was also encountering "Campaign -> select hero -> click next -> Warlords II.exe crash to OS", I did fix this one at least... will come up with the compilation and upload it. But I cannot promise that it will be perfect, but I was able to play with DXWnd like 10 scenarios and 3 campaign maps, so there is hope :D

ok here is the "IMPORT" file, with this one I was able to get to campaign, play and win and level up and close properly (2+ hours gameplay), but I strongly advise to learn some basics about the settings (especially Tabs like : HOOK, Video, DX)
And do not forget to set the DXWnd "run as admin".

I'm not entirely sure what I did, but now the game runs fine with and without DXWnd lol. I'm marking this as solved, you've been a great help! I had never heard of DXWnd before so hopefully I'll be able to play some older games that I had issues with in the past. Thanks for all your help!
