Added a reply to the missing CD error to shed some light on various issues. I really wish they would fix it.

The bottom-line
If you want to play scenarios (actual scenarios - see my reply) or campaign the GOG version is better because it's probably more stable and can definitely run the cut scenes.

If you want to play skirmish vs AI you need a "liberated" version from the internet. Insert the CD, fiddle with window's compatibility settings and accept some UI stuttering and potential color errors.
Yeah, would have been nice if the guy with the fix in that thread linked had posted the fix somewhere instead of disappearing without a trace. -_-

I edited my post here and in the other thread. There is a solution (simply replace the WW.exe in your GOG folder with a cracked version) but I'm not sure this is the way they want to go for official releases.

Gentlemen, the issue is resolved in the easiest way. You have your GOG War Wind or War Wind 2 installed, you get the ISOs, you mount them, you replace GOG .EXEs with ISO .EXEs - and you're fine. You'll get the "Missing CD" error message but you can ignore it clicking Continue.

Yesternight I played War Wind/War Wind 2 single scenarios in such way without any problems. Those of you who would want to get the working ISOs may PM me, and I'll give you a cloud link (I don't think it would be correct to place it here).

Or you may find them by yourselves if you go to Old-Games dot Ru, it has English variant of interface (flag in the upper right corner of the screen), type War Wind or War Wind 2 in the search field, click the Files tab - and here you are, just download CD image, patches and whatever you want (by the way, this Russian site has the FULL version of War Wind manual, with 13-14 missing pages restored).
