I just got Underrail as a gift, and I've been chomping at the bit to play it. But I haven't found too much info on decent character builds, or at least not on the build I think I'd like to play.

I'd like to play a smooth-talking thief. From what I see over at the online Underrail Character Build Tool, I'd make use of all but Strength, Constitution and Intelligence.

It seems I'll still need some kind of damage-dealing tactic, though. Doubtful I can go through the whole game without having to kill a few people/creatures.

Have you checked out my New Player Tips thread? There might be some stuff there that helps you out.

UnderRail has a lot of combat situations. There are situations that can make great use of social skills, but it's going to be extremely frustrating if you go into it without an exact plan for how you're going to deal damage. I personally like Stealth / Knives for that type of character. :D

yes!!! GET INTO THE HEAD/ROLE of who you want to play and how you want to play each little "bit" of the game

it's really all up to you on the skills and builds, but don't spread too thin at all, best to max 7-8 skills at the outset, imo

figure out which main-weapon type you want to use

if you want to craft

what other skills look good to you and the feats too

synergize

experiment (play for a bit with a build, then start over and tweak it more to your liking)

stealth I think is a MUST because it's so fun!
