This game is simply not working for me. If I try to use a lever, or rest in a bed, then my characters freeze up. I can access the save menu, or talk to them, but cannot move. If I save the game and reload, I'm still frozen. If I shut the game down and restart, I can move, but still cannot use levers or a bed without the problem reoccurring.

As such, the game is not playable.

Anyone else having this problem, or has found a solution?

Are you using the base version they include, or are you using Exult? I always have had a freezing problem with Exult. Also, if your freezing problem is with the base version, you may want to try Exult. It is a modernized engine that runs all the UItima VII games. As far as I know, it works fine with the GOG version of UVII.

hm yeah I get freezings too but only when I multitask/change to another screen and back to the game. using exult and an old vista laptop system. otherwise exult is quite good for playing u7.
it's a bit annoying if there is something else to do while playing. but i managed to get it somehow back working while tinkering with fullscreen and windowed mode... or just quit the game and start again and the game works. don't know much about the non-exult modes. i like the bigger resolutions better anyway :)

If you can, you may want to go to an earlier build of Exult. I was using one of the first builds and never had a problem, but I think at around the fourth build the freezing problems started. The earlier builds have the higher resolution. If you cannot get the freezing to stop, you may want to use the packaged DosBox version GOG provides. While it does not have the higher resolutions, it is the first version of UVII I've ever played (including the original version) that has never frozen or blacked out yet.
