TheKid965: Here's a quick and dirty list of things you should do to raise your Virtue scores in Ultima IV, if you're having trouble getting out of the blocks:
* Never run from battle unless the situation is hopeless, or your Valor will go down.
* Never attack non-evil creatures such as bears.
* If you see chests in a town or castle, don't open them unless someone has explicitly said you can!
* Chests you find in dungeons or win in battle are yours for the taking, however.
* Always pay blind shopkeepers the correct amount you owe, never less. Overpaying can be good for your Virtue, however.
* If asked, and you can afford it HP-wise, you should always donate blood to healers.
* Whenever you're at Lord British's castle, you should always check in with Hawkwind the Seer.
* If anyone in this game asks you if you're "the best" at something or "the most" something, THE CORRECT ANSWER IS "NO!"
* Exception to the above rule: If someone asks if you're the most humble. You can say "yes" to that, paradoxically enough.
There are longer and more detailed FAQs out there about how Ultima IV's Virtue system works, and how it can be manipulated to your benefit. I highly suggest seeking these out for more and more detailed information; all I've done here is provide a jumping-off point. Take it as you will.
watching "spoony's" youtube vid here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPQ5rLzP8Qo is incorrect about letting fleeing go, if it is a troll, a rogue(who is mean and steals your gold thus your grocery money), or even a sea horse(which I once thought you had to let flee) your doing a service, these will not affect your avatar hood. your play charcter should never run from a battle at all, even if it is hopeless(and that is insane but it is the way it is) you must let your party out before they reach below 100 HP, over tip the blind reagent sellers, give at least 50 gold to each begger(which is ridiculous but you are the budding Avatar-in-training) and don't let Kat join your group, she goes below 100 HP and you can loose out on I believe justice and compassion for not letting your companions flee when wounded and she sucks at everything(a blow to your Avatarhood means she does) I pick shepherd as a class as I can max out stats from level 1 easier by almost level 8 with only Lord British and no dungeon ball touching(no pun intended), but it is very tough during the first 3 levels and no mana means no cure casting. you gain valour fast if you don't die that way.* Never run from battle unless the situation is hopeless, or your Valor will go down.
