Once you play Ultima 7 with smooth scrolling there is no going back to the herky-jerky original

One question: Did they get HP/MP recovery correct? In the original engine, every hour you regain 1 HP and half of the MP you spent. In the version of Exult whose source code I checked years ago, recovery worked differently: You recover random amounts of HP and MP up to (IIRC) a third of the maximum.

I'm guessing it was version 1.2 you checked then? I cannot say for sure since I just compiled it yesterday, but the recovery rate seems different than version 1.2 in the latest 1.5 SVN, but it seems to work at the same pace as far as health goes, I have yet to get the spell book from Lord B.
Sure, smooth scrolling is a fine thing, and so is the additional "keyring"-quest, the new interactive possibilities (making butter etc.), and the lactose-intolerant Iolo ;) - still I really really miss the complete schedules (smith in Minoc for example) and the correctly working lighting-system, two very unfortunate immersion-breakers for me. Some sounds don't work correctly too.
So I've played Ultima 7 with Exult (with an overall good experience) but I'll play it without the next time. There is a "going back" at least for me. :P
However, the work the guys are doing with exult is outstanding, that's out of question.

Actually, there is one other thing I am wondering. In the casino, when at the races, you can get your winnings to increase exponentially by betting on the race and not taking your winnings. (Just reload until you win again.) In the original engine, eventually the game would run out of memory and crash. What happens in Exult?

IIRC, you could make butter in the original one. I'm reasonably sure my party defeated the fellowship on a steady diet of nothing but butter!
That must have been awful having to stuff their faces with butter so often. At least it wasn't Silverleaf though...

I found it amusing!
You are right. It is much better with exult than the original
I've been really enjoying Exult. More screen space, better scaling, smother controls... It's a lot better. I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)
