(I could not edit my subject, since this is a general "Ultima" forum I would have liked to add "Ultima IX" as a topic but it does not seem possible to edit it anymore.)

Hello everyone, just bought Ultima IX from gog.com and I have a strange crashing problem. I read that the game tends to crash in various places but so far the only crashes I encountered (and quite a lot of them) always happen to me when I drag an item into my inventory and slightly beneath the bag (on the left bar of the GUI).

I did not have crashes randomly while walking the world for example.

A typical crash looked like this: I start the game outside Lord British's castle. I walk into the hedge maze. I find the center and the fire sword. I grab the sword and drag it to my bag, maybe just a bit below it before releasing - and it crashes.

Is there any - ANY - way to fix those crashes at least? I do not care if it crashes randomly at some spots in the game as I save often and in different slots but this? It makes this (quite great) game totally, completely unplayable. Imagine you find that sword in the maze, a reward, a rewarding moment, something memorable - and a crash happens the moment you get your item. That's extremely frustrating.

My Ultima IX config is the same from gog.com (they use nglide). I also updated nglide to the latest 1.04 and also tried the patch 1.09h from the "Forgotten World" site to no avail. I also tried the suggested .ini configs from that site and it didn't change a thing (it was even recommended to not use it with any nglide configuration of U9 such as the one from gog.

Other than that I doubled (in the original ini) the view distance to 16000 far and 8000 mid.

My system:

Alienware M17x
Windows 8.1
GeForce 980M
8gig Ram
i7 CPU
