If more and more indie and kickstarter games are going to be priced at AAA prices, I can see the demise of indie gaming. And with the dearth of AAA games being released that doesn't bode well for PC gaming.

I for one and not going to pay £35-£60 for this game!

This wasn't crowd funded, and it's not an indie game.
I consider PoE to be AAA quality, at least after it was fully patched. And at least Obsidian did continue to patch and support it, unlike many other developers. I dislike the seemingly accepted definition that AAA means FPP or over the shoulder 3PP or throwing heaps of money at it. That extremely limits what styles of games a 'AAA' developer can make and throwing heaps of money at a game doesn't automatically make it good. I think AAA should be defined by how good the quality is.

UK_John:
The whole "AAA" deal is a joke. Thre are no such things as "AAA", "BBB", "CDCD+" types of games. A game receives its price tag based on many factors (money spent on production, marketing campaign, estimated number of selled copies and general gamers' disposition towards game's genre are the most prominent).

And this is not an "indie" game. It has a publisher (as in the guy who have given money and not a guy who just helps with distribution channels). Granted, it is not a big one but a publisher nonetheless. And for a non-indie game "Tyranny" have a very reasonable price.

Indeed. Not sure where people are taking the idea that Tyranny is an indie game.

I mean it has a major developer, a major publisher, no crowdfunding that I noticed and is by no means a small game that you'll finish in a few hours or that has only one style of playing it.

The price is completely fair to my eyes. $45 or whatnot is already below the AAA price.

Seeing it is not self-published... it is not indie. That was my understanding of indie - developed and published by the same people, yes?
It's because the staff used to work for AAA companies and have brought those idea's with them. They touted themselves as an indie company in the lead up to PoE and yet they were the first indie type company to do an distribution deal to get the product into retail stores. Hence a "retail" price rather than an "indie" price.

Wasteland 2 and Ember were the equal to PoE and Tyranny and they sold at a much lower price. And we have already seen how some gamers consider Tyranny to be "dumbed down" compared with PoE.

All I know is £44 for an isometric RPG from a group that broke away from AAA companies and brought those idea's with them.

Name any other "breakway" group that have brought AAA thought processes to the fore like Obsidian! The fact is the RRP of Fallout NV was cheaper than Tryanny! If small groups of developers whether called "indie" or not start charging AAA prices, then the indie market will struggle. That's why competitive product to PoE sold for 30% less, at least.
Ok indie means independent. That means they don't go to publishers or follow the same channel to get their game out.
The reason behind it, the price tag, or even the size of the firm that does it is irrelevant... It also doesn't mean semi professionnal games, even if the vast majority are. But I don't remember that they said they were

That said, you don't need to ask our permission or seek our approval not to buy the game. Just ignore it or wait for discounts.

As for what seems to be your conception on indie games, I wouldn't worry, there will always be two guys coding in their garage to come up with a good id and market it

To be perfectly frank, AAA games suck these days anyway. It was never about the price for me, it was about whether the devs and publishers had a legitimate reason to believe they could get away with exploitative money-grubbing. The guys that dominate the market apparently can, because people keep buying their tripe anyway. Indie studios and small studios with small(ish) publishers, however, have to consider what their customers want and can't be too greedy. This results in better products for us, which is why these days I basically only buy games by such devs and games that have proven their worth a long, long time ago. Hence why I've been buying everything Larian has to offer and not touching a damn thing from Ubisoft, EA, Sega or Squeenix.
