In the Bladekisser DLC there's a prolonged battle against a submarine that I had a lot of fun with the first time around on V Hard. Then I tried it on Expert....

I've spent three hours on the final quarter of it's health. It launches ten to twelve missiles every time it surfaces, and those missile track, lead, hit rapidly enough to preclude changing direction on the narrow platform pathways, white out the screen when looked at to shoot down, and the odd missile in the battery misses widely enough from the point of aim that they 'weave' around barriers and can hit me even behind solid obstructions. The splash damage from a near miss is a one-hit-kill with full armor and 2/3rds of a health bar. They ignore cloaks, and the barrage outlasts the slide/stamina meter so the final few can't be dodged in an all-out evasion. (If the sub surfaces near my location I can't evade away anyway, since it leads its shots deeper and faster than even slide-movement can carry me.)

Can't shoot them down. Can't take cover. Can't evade. And it takes three or four sub surfacings (each with a barrage of missiles) spent unloading into it, full time, without doing anything about the missiles, to get through the section. That's hoping not to get schwacked by a 'near-miss' missile, which happens about half the time, and lucking out on where the sub chooses to surface relative to my position, three times in a row. I got close, once, saving all my bullet time for the sub sections and getting repeatedly lucky, but again... three hours on that last little sliver of health.

Anybody manage to pull this off yet? How'd you do it?

To answer my own question :

Save all your bullettime for the sub
Always carry a machine gun / minigun so you can unload for prolonged periods
Take the last minion hostage, mope around the deck collecting armor, reload, then toss them into the sea and jump onto the seaside mid-platform box stack as he tumbles out
Track sub. Unload for ~2 seconds, then shift to hitting the missiles. Kick-slide towards the sub as necessary if the screen whites out or the missiles look like they might land.
In the brief, brief window after the missile barrage ends, unload again into the sub.

With the machine gun, you can get through two magazines, firing the last round with JUST enough time to engage your cloak before the next wave of minions pop out of their shells with their instantanous tracking / trigger finger / grenade chucking.

Using those tactics, it only takes about twenty attempts for someone who breezes through the rest of the game / grew up on N64 Goldeneye.
