I am getting hammered in a battle on level 9, bad guys get healed constantly and its proving really difficult.
Any advice?

All I can tell you is that, when I've faced any stiff competition, it's seemed to have been a result of neglecting my characters for a while: not training them recently, or swapping out their gear with new, more powerful weapons and armor I've found along the way, that kind of thing.
