As much as I enjoy using pets and appreciate the fixes to the game, I find that pets stuck at level 16 still suck horribly by chapter 4+

I have played through all the original parts and half of this new expansion, yet even the core dweller has to be resummoned after 1 to 3 groups fought, depending on weather it's magic or physical enemies.


The pets need to auto level up with the player; even if it was 5 or 10 levels lower then the player, it'd be enough to keep them relevant.
As it is, maxing them out at 16 just guaranttees that they are useful to the end of act three; after that, they gradually become useless compared to ANY spell or fighter build.

Please make the pets auto level!
They come back in Epic and Legendary, though.
Did you play the ActI-IV adventure in normal, or did you skip directly to Ragnarok?

It is important because in Act III is a Quest whose reward is a beefy power up to the pets, and without it can be fairly difficult.

Edit, my bad. You state you played the whole game. I am afraid you have to reach Epic then.

That quest reward is granted to Accomplished Heroes as far as I know. And no, pets never sucked, not even in pre-AE TQ. Sure you had to get through the dry spell of Normal Act4, but after that it's smooth sailing.
I tend to agree with Deinmaar, definitely the Act.III quest gives a good boost, but to say they "suck" is too much even without it.

Perhaps you are missing something?
During our frist co-op run in normal, my GF was playing Nature (pure, no second skill) with maxed out wolfes and nympo plus healing skills.
She was just standing behind their pets, casting heal and occasionally supporting them with her wand, while the pets did a damn good job in wiping out the mobs (with a little help of my huntsman)! :-)
However, they did not last long against some of the later bosses; but they still could keep them busy while we were doing our "worst" to bring them down. This was great already.

During Act 5 (Ragnarok) she did not find any further usefull skills in Nature, and dediced to add Spirit.

NOW she can summon 2 wolfes, the Nympho, and the Liche King - and boy, it's bloody awesome!!
We are close to the end of Act 2/Epic; and until now, it (mostly) feels like a cakewalk :-)

Pets suck??

After buying this new expansion, I'm playing through with nature from the start again and again pets just suck by the time act 4 rolls around.

Even with the yeti hp buff, they still kill enemies fairly slowly despite me equiping a bunch of +physical damage items and the wolves die every time there is a larger group to fight. :-(

Pets NEED to level with the player after maxing out their base skill!


Did anyone ever make a mod to cause that to happen?

Sadly, pets are at their weakest at the end of normal, but they can still get you through it with the right gear and supporting skills.

They get awesome again at the start of epic, and stay good from there.

You really should be looking at a second mastery to support them though. Dream in particular is amazing for pets as your auras and mastermind buff can make them seriously dangerous. even discounting the rest of the mastery.

That said, skip the Nymph. It's the only pet that actually does suck.
