I know there is no right answer here but I keep changing my mind and I'm looking for someone to push me in one direction, plus I just love seeing other people's ideas.

additional info would help.. do you plan on using spear or bow? for spear almost any mastery would go well with hunting.. storm probably wouldn't.. for bows i think 3 stands out:

ranger - if you like having pets with you.. 3 wolves with strength of the pack.. max HoO

brigand - if you like going solo.. max nightshade and mandrake.. lethal strike

haruspex - you have 1 pet but confusion is his only job.. max lucid dream tree and ToC.. few points in temporal rift for crowd control

shit sorry! :P

I am acing it with a bow.
I looked at adding rogue but while the extra bleeding looks nice, it really isn't much to add.

Then Slayer came to mind but again, I might only be using it for one or two things.

I never thought of Ranger. I love pets and given my inability to get close to anyone, having some friends between me and the baddies might be very nice. Also, those are skills you don't need to keep triggering over and over, which is what I liked about Hunter; most of that stuff is passive.

yep ranger is nice.. in AE pets get bonuses.. set your wolves to aggresive and just keep firing.. if you want you can have sylvan nymph but she wouldn't be necessary.. rouge is best for CC not bleeding.. slayer i think is best for melee

Someone just told me any melee creature I add is going to be useless because of the AI.

Unfortunately I already took the class and put points into it so I'm stuck with it.
rubbish.. right click on your pets icon and set to aggressive.. attack only after the wolves start attacking.. I've tried ranger before and so many other chars.. that build is very viable

I have the wolves beefed up pretty good and they are dying VERY fast. :P I have the money so I'm going to reset and see what the Nymph does for me.

I can afford to reset this Mastery 50 times over.

no no.. normal you don't need much tank.. 1st 2 acts you can go all hunting.. act 3 you'll have a quest that gives +100% health to pets.. by the time you reach epic your wolves get difficulty buffs.. same with legendary

remember you need lvl 18 call of the wild to get 3 wolves so you need at least +2 skills (that's easy.. i have a guide on reddit on how to farm SB cuffs).. you need only max wolves and stength of the pack.. the other 2 skills in that tree are useless

edit: since you put points in nature already you can put a point in HoO and pump hunting.. no wolves yet.. act 3 you can add wolves.. no nymph

that +100% health to pets applies on all difficulties so that's 3x 100% heath to pets

another edit: when you have enough points you can put a point in sylvan nymph (just 1 point) and a few on overgrowth (makes your wolves a bit tougher)

what exactly are the ultimate levels?
ultimate levels are levels past max skill levels.. 16/16 call of the wild gives you 2 wolves.. 18/16 will give you 3 wolves.. you can't have 4 wolves even at 20/16

DEFENSE

Warden is a very interesting class if you like solo (no pets) melee, with a lot of good looking animated procs, and two possible movement skills: you have shield procs, volley, shield charge, and take down.

Also: spears4eva. TQ is practically the only non-RTS game that shows the correct use of classic spear.
