My display brightness is on MAX, but I still cannot see a thing while lighting effect is ON.
So I found a way to tweak it a little bit to be more bearable.
If you want to do the same locate your ~/Throne of Darkness/Config/Throne.cfg and change these values:

seta "CharacterControlledLightRadius" "400"
seta "CharacterFullLightRadiusPercentage" "20"
seta "CharacterNonControlledLightRadius" "300"

I changed it to:

seta "CharacterControlledLightRadius" "600"
seta "CharacterFullLightRadiusPercentage" "20"
seta "CharacterNonControlledLightRadius" "500"
