I just bought Thief II fromGOG and installed. I was able to install the game and open it but it never platyed the intro nor would it play the intro when I clicked "intro". Other than that, the game works to an extent BUT while on the first mission, if I try to ESC to the options or hit M to view map..the game crashes. PLZ HELP!!! I have Windows 7 64-bit and quad core (i already tried setting affinity to one processor with no luck)

use the latest Tafferpatcher, it will fix up your game to run flawlessly on your pc (and more).

My experience installing this game has been both strange and frustrating. After SEVERAL hourstrying to solve the problem I finally gave up, shut my PC down, then went to bed. I woke up after dreaming about Thief (lol, I'm super stoked to have this game finally) and decided to try once more. I boot up my PC, wait for Windows 7 to finish some updates, then x2 click the Thief II icon. Not only did it load with the intro (for the 1st time) FINALLY, it also didn't crash when I attempted to view the map or hit ESC to go into the pause menu. I'm really not sure what (if anything) I did to fix this problem. I didn't dl the tafferpatcher or any patch for that matter. It just, randomly, started to run perfectly fine. Crazy. I had tried rebooting several times previouslyto no avail. Perhaps Windows 7 was trying to finish updating all along and THAT is what caused the issues. Meh, who knows!?! I'm just super happy to finally play this game for the first time. I have Thief 3 for Xbox and LOVE IT, only I play it on Xbox 360 so I've had to suffer...--->
...<--- playing T3 with all the graphical bugs that occur when playing this Xbox title on an Xbox 360. All lighting effects, torches, environmental effects (dripping water, glowing glyph signs andsmokey zone load points etc) can be seen through the walls up to about a 20 foot distance. Extremely distracting and it takes away from the experience. Dishonored was holding me over for several weeks but it was time to get Thief II. I have a shitty integrated video card (the X4500) but 6 gigs DDR3 memory and a 3.5 GHz processor so I'm wondering now if Thief Deadly Shadows would be playable on this Dell setup if I buy it..

I would highly recommend installing Tafferpatcher (patch 1.19 is included) anyway, the bugfixes, speed and stability improvements are well worth it.

The benefits of Thief 2 1.19 are miraculous. It does too much for the game to even explain here properly. Like upgrading the engine to be able to run in most resolutions including widescreen, boosting the color to 32 bit from 16 bit, lots of ancient bugs fixed, including the old cutscene crashes that have plagued this generation of computers.

Don't sleep on it, it would be an insult to the community that created it.
