The release of the new Thief has got me exited to replay the first three. My original retail copies are long gone but lucky I have the GOG versions, but there is a small problem. GOG only has Thief GOLD available. I personally prefer the original Dark Project over the GOLD edition for a number of reasons: Out of the new missions, I only like Songs of The Caverns and some of the changes to the original missions I don't like (Lost City, I'm looking at you). I would like to see GOG have the original Dark Project has a download option in addition to Thief GOLD. You can do it GOG, you guys are great; I mean you brought System Shock 2 back from retail hell. There is nothing from preventing you to do this.

You can skip the GOLD missions from what I understand. There are a lot of folks here that aren't really fond of those.

BTW I still have my retail copies but I still got them here because the tweeking it takes to get those working is BEYOND a pain in the ass! :D

just ctrl+alt+shift+end the missions you don't like. you can also delete miss18.mis from your gold install and then apply TFix, this will fool the patcher to install T1 maps. but no guarantees that everything will work as intended.

No thank you. While I would like to play the original Dark Project, I'm not going to the point where I have to hack the game.

You have a worrying view of what dictates as hacking. FYI, I doubt GOG will bring dark project here because that would likely just cost them money over nothing when you have more than one solution to your problem.

the differences between gold and dark project are very small - just those extra missions (that can be skipped), one tiny difference in Undercover - only one talisman is kept by the Hammers, not two, same in the Lost City (also, creepy crawlies are replaced by mages). there is a mod that actually reverts gold into dark project somewhere at TTLG, and I guess I could include it in TFix, but it does not seem like there is any real demand for this.

it's like if you don't like the cherry on your cake, eat just the cake, and leave the cherry alone.

Those aren't the only differences, although the others tend to be additions in TG (part of Constantine's mansion; the Fire Spirit), fixes, or minor changes (the chewing sound effect; modified AI pathing in Cragscleft; keys moved around in Constantine's mansion; a modified purse in Escape!; an Ape Beast removed in the final level). There were a few changes to the Bonehoard, and [url=http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142967&p=2227508&viewfull=1#post2227508]people prefer the original texturing. I think I also read somewhere that TDP has better video fidelity in its FMVs compared to TG, but I've forgotten where.

I'm aware, but that stuff is too small to matter unless you are a purist. if that's the case, TFix is not going to be a good choice for you. too much stuff fixed, modified and updated.

I didn't mean to imply TFix should handle that; I was just pointing it out in the context of the OP's suggestion that GOG should include TDP.

Voodoo I'd like that mod,included! It would save me trouble of having two copies of thief installed if if I could easily switch between TDP and Gold.

On second thought, I might close this thread. After getting to the Thieves Guild, I'm finding it not as bad as I remember. The missions is way too hard for that early in the game but it's not abysmal.
