Had a brief power outage earlier while playing Theme Hospital, and now, after rebooting, the game no longer recognizes any of my save files. The files are all still there in the directory, but the game lists nothing but "empty" on the load screen. The continue option is still available, but it causes the game to freeze and/or glitch out.

So... are my files just permanently corrupted, or is there any way to get them working again? I really don't want to start over =/

I've tried running the game as administrator and reinstalled the game into a different directory (+ backed up save files), all to no avail. (And yes, I'm using the same name.)

Was going to suggest the name issue, but looks like you have that covered.

Looking at my own files, all save files are 420 314 bytes big, except the *.HDT file which is only 92 bytes. Wouldn't think all your files should be corrupted from a power cut. Have had to forcequit the game a few times due to the mouse being stuck on the left side, and saves have worked after that. Kind of the same way of ending the game I would imagine.

Could perhaps be that the *.HDT file has somehow become corrupted. From looking at the time, it updates when the game autosaves (which happens to spot 8 apparently, so a good idea to not save to that one). Maybe this got messed up somehow when the machine shut down?

Maybe a workaround can be to start up the game and type a new name. This should create a new set of savefiles and the hdt file. Then you can try to copy your savefiles and rename them to this new name, and see if the game takes them then. Worth a shot I suppose. Starting over is not tempting.. :(

Looks like it was in fact the .HDT file. Replacing it as you suggested worked perfectly! It even carried over the high score to the new name.

Many thanks!
Glad it worked :)
Thanx!!
