The "next-gen" update to The Witcher 3, besides introducing new bugs, also includes items only available if the game is linked to a Galaxy account.

So to play this offline, single-player game you have to let it go online, connect wherever it wants, and report all kinds of stuff to CDPR if you want to enjoy all the content that's already installed.

And the topic that discussed this new anti-feature has just been silently deleted. Is it prohibited to even talk about it now? After all, this is advertised by CDPR as "rewards", so it's hardly a secret. Are you not proud of yourself, CDPR? So why not have a talk about it on the game's official forum as has been customary on GOG?

Funnily enough, The Witcher 3 even includes a quest that mocks DRM:
https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/The_Tower_Outta_Nowheres

Maybe it should be removed from the game now just like the topics about DRM are being removed from this forum?

Since it looks like CDPR of 2016 is making fun of CDPR of 2022.

Separately, GOG used to be big about being DRM-free. What happened to "FCK DRM"? The Web Archive remembers:
https://web.archive.org/web/20201218011304/https://fckdrm.com/

As that website, hosted by GOG but since deleted, helpfully explained: "DRM will send your information to an online server, it could run checks [...] or outright refuse access unless you're logged in somewhere."

It then went: "Why should you care about DRM? Because there is a killswitch built into your games. Sure, DRM might not affect you right now, but corporations hold the key and they'll only let you in as long as you can repeatedly prove ownership. As long as you're connected to the internet. As long as their DRM works without fault. As long they're still around."

Thank you GOG for the explanation. Wouldn't have put it better myself.

Until recently, a game that includes DRM would not even be listed on GOG. Now it's CDPR's own games that are embracing DRM. Only let's not talk about it too much, right?

Separately, with the GOG Downloader discontinued, those of us who do not want to use the Galaxy client have to click 23 times to download the installation files manually as of the latest update. You are really making your paying customers feel like suckers CDPR. It's much more cumbersome to download the game I paid for than it is for someone who did not buy it all. Is that a winning strategy?

If this topic (which does not break any rules) is deleted too, it only proves CDPR/GOG is really beyond redemption now.

Generally, I agree with DRM in Witcher 3 but I don't see what the fuss is about the clicks. All you do on your computer is click here and there, so it's not such a big deal. If you want to automate the download, you can code it yourself if that matters so much for you. Personally, I just clicked on the download links like I click on anything else and then went about my business while the browser downloaded all the files, didn't bother me one bit. I'm glad it's still an option, honestly, the way things going, I wouldn't be surprised if GOG has stopped providing offline downloads one day.

100% agree! Since no one made a wishlist entry about this, I made one, please upvote it: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/witcher_3_remove_drm

Btw, the forums are so broken, Archive pages ignore the archive url at the beginning and only use the ending url, effectively taking you to the non-Archive page. People need to copy and paste it.
Indeed, It's a shame. They are missing the target.

The rewards are in the game tho, but you need to use the console to get them if playing offline.

additem('Dol Blathanna Armor')
additem('Dol Blathanna Boots')
additem('Dol Blathanna Gloves')
additem('Dol Blathanna Pants')
additem('Dol Blathanna longsword')
additem('White Widow of Dol Blathanna')
additem('gwint_card_roach')

Yeah, I noticed that thread, too. For me it's not so much that you can get to it with a workaround, but that the people who, once, advocated for DRM-free are DRMing their own games and pretending it's still DRM-free. They used to claim that DRM punished customers and that DRMed games were pirated more. DRM-free and a good customer experience (part of DRM-free and not punishing customers) encouraged buying. I have to agree. Seems like they've been going downhill for years, now, with various things, including the broken forum.

Until they remove the DRM, I won't be buying, and GOG is less relevant. Might as well, buy elsewhere if I buy at all when they DRM stuff.

It's horribly sad allright. They used to be truly DRM-free advocates, had that "Fuck DRM" campaign, and the DRM tower in the game itself. Now? Both CDPR and GOG have been going in the wrong direction for years, and I wasn't surprised when this happened. It was bound to given their actions. It's only going to get worse from here. It's why I bought new harddisks and downloaded my whole library. For safekeeping. DRM free.
What the actual fuck... Why do I have to randomly find out about this? How is NOBODY talking about this?

Remember that DRM-free games is the only reason why GOG exists. Without it, it has no reason to exist. If GoG allows DRM in their games that basically makes it just another DRM platform like Steam, in which case you might as well rent your games on Steam. Yes, rent because Steam doesn't let you own anything.

Haven't there been enough shitstorms about games with DRM being offered on GoG? Why is GoG breaking their own principles? Who is making these utterly TONE DEAF decisions? Looks like we need another DRM-free platform soon.
Imo no drama, since you can easy obtain the freebies for free and modless via console. I prefer always manually download the games file by file without galaxy. As long as the small reward for using galaxy is just some midcore fancy armorset its ok imo. its worse in Cyberpunk, where you get i think 3 Quickhack extra slots, its harder to resist. IF there would be areas or quest INGAME which have the message "to open this Door / Quest you must install Galaxy" that would go to far and THEN why not install from the Steampunx.. but till now GOG still rules and i will buy here still.

Same. I've ignored Galaxy from day 1. Offline installers are the only reason I buy games here.

But forcing people to to resort to workarounds like this to access content that they should have access to to begin with is just fucking wrong and doesn't really speak in favor for GoG as a platform. It shows that they no longer care about the principles that gave them a reason to exist to begin with.

Learn what is a DRM you all bunch of jesters. Can you play it offline? Can you install it and play it without any launcher? Does it contain any code to proof that you are the owner? All answers are: NO

Then the fuck you talking about DRM because the non Launcher version does not activate some free dlcs? That might be a bug or they forgot to include em, that's different, bark about they not including some dlcs that you can still activate using the console.

Now you all go home and bring your shine boxes

If you need to resort to insults to make your argument, you've already lost the argument. It was not a bug, forgetfulness or a mistake, it was intentional as seen on the store page about the rewards and the page that takes you to. It purposely requires you to be online with Galaxy to get those rewards.

Take your own "advice" about learning before you make purely fictional claims that are refuted by GOG/CDPR themselves.
