(SPOILER ALERT)

Hello

I have some trouble with the "Family Matters" questline.

I had gone past the part where you either kill a zombie baby or turn it into spirit. I could follow the trail with horse shoes, I found the slaughtered horse and such... Went to fisherman's home and got intel about Tamara.

I went to the small city and met tamara. Then i returned to the baron to tell him about his daughter. He said that i'm still not done because i need to keep on going for anna's search.
Quest detail on the very right part of quest screen tells me I heard about Anna in crookback bog...
No trail or quest target, though

My problem:
Quest tracker only tells me to "follow velen leads to find Anna"... no direction given. I didnt mind not being held by hand, so i told myself "hey, lets go back to the road between fisherman's home and the place where you saw the dead horse !'

But they are not noted down as point of interest or something, and when i did the baby spirit quest part, it was by night, i barely saw anything in the pitch dark, i was following the glowing ghost... And I am not very goot when it comes to orientation in open world...

So is it a bug ? (no quest marker/trail) If not, was my intuition right ? (going to the place where Anna was saw for last time during horse attack) and if such, can someone help me a bit finding back the road between horse attack and fisherman's home ? And if it is not the right move, can someone tells me where to unlock the next step of the quest ?
Baron wont talk to me any further (aside for telling me i'm not done yet, blablabla what am i waiting and such...)

Thank a lot

It's story related. Just do the cookbag bog storyline and the issue will sort it self out.
but i dont have the crookback bog storyline at all... which NPC does start it exactly ? Because if it's Baron Strenger that starts this storyline, well i'm just in a dead end because aside from rambling about the past, playing Qwynt and urging me to go find Anna, he is not of much more help so far.
(Spoiler) Do the Ladies of the Wood quest. If you don't have that quest do the Wandering in the Dark quest with the sorceress Keira Metz. You will receive a book titled "The Ladies of the Wood" which you have to read. Everything else will sort itself out afterwards.

Ladies of the wood...

Thank lot... I will try to check about it next time i can launch the game for a little playing session. Yet it is strange that the "family matters" tracker stops to a dead end without aiming you at the next part (i meanlike hinting to find some named npc or go to some named place/village... for a start)

at least, by luck, i found back the horse attack area and the fisherman's home. Of course, it was useless, yet it was making sense to me in first place :)

Patch 1.04 changed the quests a little (it did not change content of quests only what you see). In versions prior to 1.04 the 2 main quests were Bloody Baron and Witches of Crookback Bog (I think that was the name). Crookback bog quest was replaced with the Wandering in the Dark quest.

My recommendation would be to do Wandering in the Dark. This will give you the information to do Crookback and a few side quests.

Also, as an aside, I noticed that the Question Marks (?) on the map are different in versions prior to 1.04 than in 1.04. So far every thing has been in the same spot on the map.
what worries me a little is that i was advancing the quest to those steps of the storyline while the game was patched...

if you in fact tell me that one of the change of 1.04 is about this storyline, i fear my savegame will be bugged, tbh, as i completed tamara's finding in oxenfurt and return to baron between patch 1.03 and 1.04
You will be fine just complete some other story related quests and you will discover what has happened to Anna.
