I am stuck in this room as the lever to unlock the door doers not do as intended. Can anybody help. I have restarted this quest numerous times and the same result always occurs.

Yep, it is a bug that people seem to run in quite frequently nowadays... Until the problem is patched out, I recommend using this user's method. Not very elegant, but it works ;)
