On Faroe there is a hidden treasure quest called "Hidden in the Depths". After reading the message which should START the quest it was marked as completed.

Some treasures don't give xp. I think one (or some) in White Orchard didn't. Anyway an extra 5XP wouldn't matter that much in the long run.

There's no chest to loot. Reading the letter should unlock the 2nd step: find the chest.

From memory, that chest is very close to where you dive for the Jarl's brother's sword.
You didn't already loot the chest when you got the sword did you?

The quest is bugged, yes. But still THERE IS a chest in the cave near the body with the letter. Swim underwater, kill several Endrega drones 20 lvl and one Venomous arachasae 31 lvl, then open the chest in the cave with the key. BTW, I've killed it being 21 lvl witcher.

Bug still present in patch 1.11 - I'm very sure I found the cause of this. As it appears, the quest gets automatically completed if you have looted a particular Hidden Treasure chest prior to discovering this quest.
In my case, I have looted the body and the quest "Hidden in the Depths" appeared in my quest log. As the recommended level for the quest was too high for me, I decided to come back to the cave after I'm higher level.
Then, a few days later, the quest completed by looting a random Hidden Treasure chest south of Ard Skellig - the one between Kaer Muire, Fyresdal and Elverum Lighthouse.
I'm thinking this Hidden Treasure chest is somehow linked to the Hidden in the Depths quest. I hope this information will lead CDPR into the right direction to fixing this bug.

Also encountered the bug.
Game version V1.23 on PS4.
Quest closed without looted the treasure chest and now I can't open it any more.
