Hello everyone,

I have patch 1.2 Installed so this should not happen I suppose but Yestarday night I changed by sound config from 7.1 to 2 speakers so that I can use headphones but today as I changed the settings back to 7.1 I lost all voice sound, all other sounds are fine I mean music, FX etc.

I didn't even changed any game setting, just speaker config from Windows control panel ? I have heard that its a common problem but does anybody have a solution or advice ? I tried reloading different saves but no luck. I have Gog.com Digital Premium Edition of The Witcher 2

Here are my specs,

Windows 7 x64
Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ stock 2.73 Ghz
4GB RAM
Sapphire Radeon 4870 1 GB
Sound Blaster Live 24bit

Thanks.

This has been mentioned several times before. If you scroll down in the forum there is a "search" button which should lead you to some topics and even some workarounds.

In Short: Yes, known problem. And it seems you already came accros the only working workaround (as far as I know), which is to set your speaker to 4.1 or 2.0.

For instance at the end of Act II in Loredos base I had to set it to 2.0 for having constant sound. If set to 5.1 it bugged out nearly instantly, 4.1 took longer but still bugged.

Normally the patch 1.2 should've fixed this problem (for me it did aparently), but some people are still reporting it. For you the problem could also be tied to your soundcard. Which is - no offence meant - ancient. :D

Thanks for replying, yes I know my sound card is old but when I first installed the game and ran it (without patching), I faced this problem (no voice) but after that I installed patch 1.2 and the problem solved but Yestarday I changed it to 2.1 and now its bugged I think.

Does reinstalling the game solves this problem and can we use old save games once reinstalled the game ?, I mean do the saved games also get bugged ?
I have the same problem. They told me they would fix it in patch 1.2 but it still hasn't. I emailed CDProjekt to report this problem again so we can only wait. I really don't want to play without my 5.1 sound. :(
Have you tried to reinstall the game Rutix ? I am planning to try a reinstall but if someone can confirm that it actually works, I will get certain about it.
I did some testing when I ran into the same problem pre-patch-1.2 and I'm pretty sure it's not in the savegame. They're not corrupted by this bug. The problem is somewhere with the sound engine of the game.

So you can safely reinstall the game and see if it fixes things. If you're unsure whether the game automatically keeps your savegames during the uninstall process you can find them here: C:\Users\*yourname*\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves. Simply backup them manually.

You may also consider the "usual suspects", meaning:

- update your sound driver
- lowering the sound acceleration in the dxdiag settings (start menu --> type: dxdiag.exe)
- lowering the setting "Texture Memory Size" in The Witcher 2 Options **

**(This was originally suggested by a CDPR developer; in theory, when this setting is set too high and the game runs out of graphic memory it uses the system memory instead. Either by a general bug or a memory leak the game could then "forget" sound data like speech, music or ambient sounds when their data is overwritten by texture data.)
Ok as GODzillaGSPB suggested I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it and it worked. The voices are now back on my 7.1 configuration and it also solved another problem for me, the problem was, in the start the game ran fine on all High settings with just ubersampling off but from past two/three days the game started to stutter like hell, I wasn't able to play the game and combat became even more difficult with all those stutters so I lowered the settings to medium and it started to work normally but I was still wondering that when it worked fine in the start (on high settings) then why started to stutter now.

I actually did two things and one of them solved this problem for me (not sure which technique), so I will list both. First I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it as I mentioned above and the second thing was I ejected my graphics card and re inserted it in the slot and now the stutter problem is gone for good, the game runs flawless on high settings. I won't use headphones now lol, Hope it helps someone. Thanks again GODzillaGSPB.
Glad I could help. :)

The graphic-card solution may sound strange...but I actually got a similar problem many years ago (when AGP was still the standard). I found no solution and brought my PC to a professional service. I paid 40€. When I asked the guy said he just ejected the graphic card and inserted it again. I felt so stupid. lol :D
