I bought Witcher 2 on steam just now even though I already owned it on GOG. Don't ask, I'm some kind of OCD idiot.

Is it at all acceptable to try and trade the extra redeemable GOG copy with someone or does it violate some rule?

I did the same thing!

For £3, I couldn't resist.

Not sure if you can legally 'trade' it, though.
I'm hoping it is because it would be a shame for a whole extra copy to go to waste.
Give it to a friend that doesn't use GOG as an introduction - after all that's what they are after - Introducing steam users to GOG and generating more revenue.
The "extra copy" is meant as a DRM-free backup of the Steam/retail version. You cannot legally sell it, nor do you have the right to give it away, it is for your private use only. Noone will stop you because of the DRM-free policy, s it's up to your conscience.

Technically he owns two copies because he bought 1 on steam, and 1 on GoG (not sure why). Giving away one seems fine.

Technically neither the rights to GOG nor Steam provided games are transferable. And yes, I have no objections of my own in this case - but he's asking about whether or not this would infringe on any rule, and yes, it would be a violation of the Terms of Service.
does anyone still have an extra copy of witcher 1 or 2?
I'd trade you Fear 2 and 13 steam cards.

You'll have to give your GoG account to who ever you trade it with, otherwise that person won't have access to download the game.
