I use to have the Witcher game installed and working on my laptop but after a hard-drive failure I replaced it with a new HDD I then reinstalled my OS etc. So as far as I know its the same set-up as I had before with the same OS. This time however it just doesn't launch.

I installed it in administrator and I'm also trying to run it in administrator it just doesn't like to start!!!

My laptop specifications are as follows
Windows Vista 32bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8400 2.26GHz
4GB ram (3.63GB ram showing)
512MB Geforce 9600M GT

What happens when you try to launch the game? Is there an error message?

What are the specs on your laptop? You might need to bypass the minimum system requirements check. There's a method for doing that listed in the sticky thread.
My specs are listed as above but after playing for abit i get the message

"this application has failed to start because d3dx9_35.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem"

From the name of the file im guessing its the directX

Yeah you need to reinstall DirectX 9.0c... this was lost when you reinstalled your OS. Don't worry, it works alongside DX10 or DX11 so it won't mess up your newer games. Go grab it directly from Microsoft here:

Once installed The Witcher (and any other older games you have) should run properly.
