I purchased the GOG copy through a humble bundle sale. I've downloaded the install twice, once through Galaxy and once through GOG.com. I've tried just about every "fix" that has been recommended, so I'm pretty much at a loss.

When ran using witcher.exe I get a "The Witcher has stopped working" message with this info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BEX

Application Timestamp: 4910475c

And when I use the launcher shortcut set through the install, I get another "not working" message with the same information.

Any suggestions to what I do? I've updated Directx, run as admin, run in compatibility mode, installed in that mode. Reinstalled several times, and just generally tweaked some settings trying to get it to run.

Make sure you're not installed to Program Files or Program Files(x86)... or turn off UAC for testing this issue. Admin mode may not cut it.

Whats UAC? I've got the game installed on a secondary internal hard drive, tried installing in both places but neither have worked.

Edit: Looked up UAC. My settings are at the lowest on the slider.

Problems with MSVCR80.dll located here

Step 2 from this site seems to fix the problem for most people.

Not the exact same problem, but a problem related to the same file. May answer your inquiry.

Still no luck. Reinstalled using both Galaxy and the downloadable files. I feel like I'm missing something obvious at this point! I do get a little box that pops up from the taskbar each time I try to launch saying that the color scheme has been temporarily changed to windows 7 basic. Would this be causing any issues?
