I bought Witcher 2 earlier this year and its the last game to play on my backlog but I was wondering if I should play Witcher 1 and if it has adaptive difficulty like TW2 does.

I usually play story based games on easy/medium to enjoy the story first and was wondering if TW1 measures your skill level via a level as in TW2.
I don't recall Witcher 2 having that, but whatever. Kinda seemed like TW1 mainly just followed the traditional gradual increases in difficulty.

If you just play on normal, it should be somewhat challenging, but not frustrating. TW1 was pretty much just a better game all-round, bar voice acting and graphics. You start fighting knife wielding thugs, and end with muscle-bound psuedo-magical tanks. Unlike TW2, the game gives you the tools to deal with threats, potions last more than some paltry minutes, and crafting materials are plentiful.
