Hi,

I'm playing through the Roman campaign add-on pack to Settlers IV (gog version) and finding it near impossible to complete Romans Mission 2 Add-On on the hardest setting (I haven't tried it on normal / easy setting). I'm looking for some tips, techniques, or strategies to get through this one from anyone who has played it and won.

The mission starts with 2 fully occupied fortresses and a good stock of resources (46 wood, 32 stone, 26 coal, iron ore, food etc.). There is a good supply of stone nearby and the mountains have gold, iron and coal, but there are four AI Trojan enemies playing and the attacks start around 30 mins into the game with level 3 bowmen and swordsmen. The first attack from the Green team are fairly easy to fend off, then there are two attacks from the blue team which normally results in some lost towers that I recaptured, but the yellow team turns up with 100+ soldiers around 45 mins in and priests loaded up on mana and stomps me every time. There as been one occasion when I've thinned the yellow attached to only their archers whom I can attack from the safety of towers but them the orange team turns up with a similar sized attack albeit with low level fighting units, but it is more than enough to finish off my battered army.

I've tried a few different approaches that have offered incremental improvement and helped me last longer in the game, but never long enough to establish a strong army. I am really looking for a step change - cashe of weapons I'm missing, some way to pin the enemy in or exert pressure on their supply chain, some island

I cluster new towers around the forts to make a defensive 'hard point' and station archers and a healer nearby. I try to garrison my troops in the early attacks to protect them from enemy archers and spells, but need infantry and additional archers outside of the fortifications for the yellow attack.

I've tried bring on mana production early in the game to utilize priests / spells, building eyecatchers (however this only seems to lift the offensive strength of troops in the early game, not the defensive strength which remains at 100%).

I've build a super robust building material supply chain to early on to speed up construction of residences and metal working buildings.

Every time I play I refine the exact number of buildings I need to save resources and incrementally improve the time to producing soldiers, but it only wins me a few minutes and never enough to change the outcome.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

I know im late, but mb it'll be helpful for smb else. I've just went throuth the same issue. The key is to build a strong economy asap and also enlarge your territory, twice at least. I suppose the ai scripted to slaughter you if ur economy and settlement are week in the moment. The deadline is ~ an hour from the start. If you quickly build all the main chains (that will increase your offensive power) they will swich to defense mode and will never attack you. After two hours of playing i had about 150 3rd level units and was able to destroy the weakest enemies of purple and blue. The next was orange with massive but 1rd level army. The fight was impressive but last not so long. Next you have to retriet and regroup to attack the yellow one. Beware of priests, they will be the main headache to your frontline.

Hope that you came to the same conclusion
