The developers do not make two different patches / updates GOG / Steam. There is only one patch / update. Steam modifies these for their copy protection versions, GOG for their versions (copy protection-free).

Either the developers no longer support their product on GOG, or GOG no longer publish the latest versions.

That's correct. There a topic about this on their official forums: http://www.hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/16830-gog-patch/
I would be really sad if they stopped making the DRM-free version (as this was a crowdfunding promise).

Hinterland has made a high quality game with great communication to the community. There's only one thing that bugs me: In the past they've never mentioned anything about GOG, luckily this has changed. And their update schedule varies from just as fast as Steam to 6 weeks behind. WHY?!
I am really starting to get quite annoyed with Hinterland. They take so long to update on GOG plus apparently 4 Days of Night like events are in the future supposed to be on opt in beta only. Which as far as I know GOG doesn't have. It really feels like GOG players are just an afterthought at best.
If the developer no longer sends patches to GOG, I will not buy the game anymore. Also not on Steam, because I do not support Steam.

Same now with TerraTech. On 27.10. came update 0.7.8 final out, not yet published at GOG. In another game over a year no updates were published by GOG. And there were 3 or 4 final updates for the game.

The reason the 4 Days of Night isn't on GOG has a different reason.
They want to spend most of their team on developing the next update. Steam also allows to optionally select a different build of the game. GOG and console platforms don't have this option. Both facts made Hinterland chose to make this a Steam only event, I can't disagree with them on this.

Galaxy allows for a Beta channel, e.g. No Man's Sky. For the offline installers, a bit awkard, but I guess GOG could add it under extras.
Hm good point. That would make sense.
GOG version still on 1.12(32511) & i see posts from the devs on Steam talking about version 1.15 (32683). So the GOG version is now a couple of updates behind? Or is the galaxy version more up to date?
Hi Point_Man,
They say they're still working on the update for GOG... I don't think anyone believes them anymore though.
You can read about it here: http://www.hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/16830-gog-patch/

Edit: note that I have confidence Hinterland will deliver. I just think the new December update has a higher priority or something weird has happened with the GOG build which they can't seem to fix (doesn't seem like it but hey, without any information it's hard to guess).

I msged them and they said the update(s) since the current GOG version are minimal and so it wasn't really worth uploading them to GOG they're just going to wait until more crucial patches and updates are done. The person was like "don't worry about it you're not missing anything" - egghhh
Then why did they released these updates to other platforms in the first place?
That makes no sense at all imo.

So the whole "we're working on it, you're not being ignored, please be patient" thing wasn't true, they didn't planned a release of the updates to GOG at all...
I see I have to revise my opinion about Hinterland.
Great game development studio. :D Not so great in communication. :S

eh, because for the other platforms it's easy for them to just pop on little tweaks as they make them whereas to send it over to gog they have to package it as a version or whatever and it's not worth the effort/time to do that for how minor they view the things to be
I can understand this. I just don't get why they have to lie about it. I would have been fine with this as a reaction.
For the past 2 months they replied on their official forums that they were still working on the GOG update.
Why would they lie? They only make unnecessary expectations. :/

Guess we'll have to wait what the December update has to bring. I've stopped playing the story mode anyway due to less spare time and the few bugs 1.12 has. :)

P.S. Thank you for sending them a message and sharing their reaction with us. Much appreciated. :)

Console certification processes can take quite some time compared to Steam or GOG's content distribution systems. Shouldn't be an excuse since plenty of other (indie) developers manage to keep their games up-to-date on GOG.

I agree, it's weaksauce

blinkin - I actually haven't played the game hardly at all apart from several hours in survival to get a feel for it / a little familiarity for when I start story mode - but since their announcement about the delays and changes to story mode, it's going to be a long time before I play it I think

I actually am hoping to be living without internet in the next handful of years, completely offgrid (survivalism!), and so it'd be nice to get the full story completed and patched before then! I know you can't rush such things, but, can't help but be a little wary of ever being able to play the completed game!
