When I start up The Guild, the intro videos run fine, no glitches or anything.
However, once the game itself starts up, I see a constant flickering of refreshing horizontal panels across my screen constantly. I assume this is a refresh rate issue.
Is there any way to circumvent this? I find playing the game with this effect occurring to be quite annoying.
I believe my monitor's refresh rate is set to 60 Hz by default.
EDIT:
I should also note that this occurred after the Driver prompt (or whatever it was) that appeared after the intro videos.
I have also tried running it straight from the Europa 1400 Gold .exe to no avail.

What graphics card do you have? I would advise checking your V sync settings and trying the game with them forced on if they are not already or turned off if it is on.
Thanks for the reply.
I thought it was the refresh rate right off the bat, but there wasn't any option in the game itself for it, so I wasn't sure what to do.
Taking your advice, I went into ATI Catalyst, dug around a bit, and found an option for V Syncing, which solved my problem.
Thanks again.
