I downloaded Tesla Effect yesterday and was getting 1/4 screened during the intro with the rest being all green. To solve this I read I should install the latest graphics driver for my graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 4000). I did this and now the game won't load at all! I am running on a Samsung Laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit.
The issue is that the driver stops responding and the computer recovers it but I just get a white screen.
Has anyone had anything like this at all? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance :)

I had the exact same problem, followed the exact same steps and now have the exact same problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with the same graphics card.
Guys, are you certain you used the right files?

I had the same green screen problem and this is how I fixed it:

Download

win64_153318.zip from here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23714

Install the file as a legacy driver, and point it to this file: igdlh64.inf

The driver is unsigned, so you might need to actually setup windows to allow unsigned drivers, detailed here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-disable-driver-signature-verification-on-64-bit-windows-8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/

I hope this helps.

I used the same file as you. I was already running an older Intel driver, so I had no trouble installing.

I am currently on driver version 10.18.10.3496. Could you please check which version you are running, since the game works for you? *

* (Open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000 and select Properties, go to Driver tab and check what Driver Version you have.)

10.18.10.3496

However, I'm using Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600, maybe the older versions aren't as compatible?

Wait, I think I had the same problem as you before I installed the latest Direct X, have you tried that?

Yes, I am on the latest DirectX as well. Are you on Windows 8.1 x64, or something else?

There's likely some compatibility issue with the HD 4000 card.

You don't need the latest DirectX, you need the latest DirectX9 (so it's still worth trying to install that as it probably does not come build in with Windows 8)

I have the latest DirectX 9.0c as well. (Windows 8 comes with DirectX 9.0c compatibility out-of-the-box, see various MS KB articles such as http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 for more information.)
OK, so I FINALLY got things working. Turns out the problem was that the game is unable to run (crashes) in windowed mode with recent Intel display drivers.

Problem description

The steps below resolve the issue of Tesla Effect starting as a window with a white background, often (but not always) followed by crashing display driver, finally followed by a hanging Tesla Effect process. I got this problem after upgrading my video card driver to mitigate the green screen problem, your mileage may vary here.

The reason for the problem is actually that Tesla Effect is set up to start in windowed mode. (I set it up so while I was attempting to resolve the green screen problem, BEFORE I upgraded the video driver.) Windowed mode works with older drivers (but may yield the green screen problem), but crashes the more recent display drivers, which in turn freezes the game.

Fix description

1. Install an old Intel HD graphics driver for your card, build 15.33.5.64.3316 is the newest that works without crashing for me.

2. You will now have the green screen problem again. Start Tesla Effect and reset all graphics options to their default. After that, make sure you have chosen to run the game in full screen.

3. Install the most recent Intel HD graphics driver for your card.

4. Play away! The green screen is gone and the game runs fine.
