Hi,

The question is - how do I get NPCs drop or sell items? They're picking up everything and then they're encumbered. Really frustrating.
Wanted to try Circle of Eight Mod Pack 3.0.2/3.0.3 (could be a solution) but their links are not working anymore.

Thanks for advice.

Don't know the answer, never messed with NPC's as I'm too cheap to give them xp and loot.

But Co8 is at version 7.0 now, did you try from their forum links?

Can't you access their inventory? If so, just transfer the items to your character to sell them.
Unless you enable the Humble NPCs from the Co8 (automatically enabled I believe)... them NPCs are greedy bastards that don't play well with others.
Thanks for replies. Will try with 7.0.

Nope. I can't even transfer the items, but only items that NPCs picked up by themselves (automatically).
i have 7.0 and I cannot sell or drop THEIR equipment. but anything i give to them, i can take back.

Yeah same here. Makes it difficult when you want to help them upgrade from crappy leather to something more substantial and they walk around encumbered forever after.

"You can lead a wife to water but you can't make her drink" I think it how the saying goes.
One of my NPC party members had been looting stuff that I wanted. I talked to him (by selecting a PC, then right clicking the NPC and choosing Talk), and one of the options was "Sell me your equipment." IIRC, he said no... so, what was the point anyways? But it was there in conversation.
I presume you purchase their looted equipment from them, then give it to a PC, then use it or sell it. I'm really curious now to see if that's how it works.
Also, some NPCs will allow you to drag their money over one of your PC's portraits, to take it for yourself.
Arrgghhh! I had tried playing Keep on the Borderlands, but after a little bit, decided to just go back and play the ToEE adventure with new content again. However, when I went to activate it, I activated ToEE, not Co8 New Content.

I noticed some things that I thought should be there missing earlier, but not until the NPC's started getting encumbered and not giving up their loot did I start to investigate. Found this thread and looked and found what I had done. Activated Co8 which should fix all the problems, but of course, it doesn't apply to ongoing saves. I had just finished all the Homlet quests and was just beginning to 'start' the real adventure. All to waste.

So as a word of advice, remember when you start a game, your playing the Co8 (with or without New Content) and not ToEE else you'll be playing without Co8. Obvious, of course. But seeing as I'm not the only one that has had the NPC's get encumbered, I'm not alone.

Now, I'm back to square one. Play keep or ToEE. haha
If you are stuck in an old pre-Co8 save that won't allow the NPC's to sell stuff, you can fill their inventory with 0-weight stuff like arrows, cheap cantrip-scrolls or goodberries. Once all their inventory slots are full, they don't pick up any equipment anymore, though they will still take a part of the treasure.

To prevent NPCs from picking up gold, leave the gold on the ground, return to Homlett, kick the NPC from the party, then return for the gold. Rehire the NPC once all the loot is gathered.

If the NPC dies, you can loot their corpse before you resurrect/reincarnate them to clear their inventory slots and gold, then follow the above advice.

I realized a bit late with first NPC that filling inventory was fixing the problem. With a second NPC I though he wasn't taken any share, as dialog mentioned nothing, but it proved be wrong.

Sometimes it seems money drop on ground from NPC with inventory full, but quoted only one case. But otherwise it's fine, I quoted I could take money from NPC like gold and platinium. And once inventory is filled there only a pool of silver rarely filled.

So I though it would be fine, but the overloading is annoying.

So from this thread I started consider resurrection, but it seems not easy to have them dead and when they are unconscious after combat you still can't reorg their inventory.

Also I failed find what's resurrection price, it seems reset XP at end of character last level up when it shouldn't. And I suspect the price is very high. in BG1 I vaguely remind 100GP per character level, posts seem say the price is very high.

So if you can't use the co8, consider fill their inventory asap as explain post above. Don't count much on killing them and resurrect them. But with inventory filling it's ok.

That said there's another annoyance I quoted, like in shop NPC sell items you gave them and not equipped. But fill inventory, take care before go in shop, and it's really playable in case you need skip co8. Moreover they make first parts a lot more playable, it worth the few silver lost, and it seems for xp too from what I read.
