Just put a cleric in my party, and didn't get the option to pick spells during character creation and couldn't figure out where to go to pick spells in the shopmap (if there is indeed such a place, as the tutorial only says "upstairs" where there are only some beds and a table I can't use). After starting the game proper, I noticed my cleric has an array of lv0 and lv1 spells picked for him. In my experience with pen&paper d&d and other d&d pc games (Icewind Dale 2 for example), I was always able to pick out whatever spells i wanted for my cleric and they would recharge on the next rest. Is there some menu or something I'm missing for spell selection, or are auto-assigned divine spells a normal mechanic for d&d3.5?

-My other spellcaster is a sorceror and I was able to pick his spells at character creation, and I assume at every level henceforth due to his innate magical talent

-Am running the most recent Co8 pack

-My cleric's wisdom is 17

You don't get to pick the spells because as a cleric you get all the spells of a level. To be able to cast, you must memorize a certain number of spells per spell level (open the inventory screen and switch to the spells tab). You'll have the spells on the left and the available slots for each level on the right. Make your selection and don't forget to rest.

ok, fantastic, was looking everywhere for a spell menu, never thought to look through the inventory screen. Thanks a million!
