The editing of the ending as well as the inclusion of Robotkid's music in the game were both made at the very end when there was no time to try different ideas or going back to fix something. I remember a Ken Levine interview where he explained the ending was supposed to be different but the video footage they got was not what they wanted, so they went the "nah" route for a quick and easy solution with pretty much no time left. Same thing with the music, I listened to the Robotkid interview today and he wrote that stuff thinking it was only a demo to be polished and perhaps re-done correctly, he didn't think they were actually going to use what he put together.
So, it wasn't like this was some vision they had going into the game, but now it is what it is and it has grown on me. It is a mid-to-late 90's sci-fi story, and both the music and the ending is so 90's B-movie or TV sci-fi. Maybe it is just me but I have a fascination with 90's entertainment in a big way, to me this is just extremely charming even though I know it is campy and rough. People used to mock the 80's all the time, calling it shallow and incredibly infashionable, but now with a little distance we have started to romantisize it. Soon we will only remember the things that were awesome and passionate about the 90's as well and I look forward to it.

If you look at the game, it really all is just a "quick and easy solution".

I was thinking I don't remember music in SS2, then remembered I turned it off pretty early on XD
The music in SS2 doesn't come close to the music from SS1 sadly. You can play the first few bars of the Citadel tune from SS1 and almost everyone will get it straight away; The SS2 music was pretty forgettable...
I did like the "Nah" ending tho'; It was perfect :)

Look out for cameras obsessively for the first two hours. Also go for navy, and go for melee it makes sense to go for guns but they break so quickly and you never have much ammo. As a beginner you won't know how the game limits these things so go for melee until you have a stock built up and know just when is a good time to bust out the big guns.
Also have your map up the whole time and remember everything you have to do is told to you in detail via your log check it, the objectives are made very clear.
