I played Syndicate a lot on my Amiga 500, back in the early 90's. In fact I played it so much I practically wore the disks out! and it remains high on my personal chart of best games ever. A few years ago I got hold of a ROM to use with the Amiga emulator WinUAE, and played it again. I still massively enjoy it.

I didn't have a PC until 1997, Syndicate Wars was a purchase certainty and while it was good it didn't have that certain magic I enjoyed the first time I played the original on my Amiga.

My question is this. What are the major differences between the Amiga and DOS versions?
Am I better off sticking with the Amiga emulated one which works a treat, has great sound and has save states so you can effectively quick save whenever you want. Or download it from GOG today?
As former Amiga owner i must admit PC Syndicate is way better than Amiga one. Amiga verison is poorer PC Port. No UI animations (rays drawing UI elements), Low res graphics(PC one runs at 640x480 in-game), More jerky character animations (just compare walking anim of citizens), Better speed (Amiga one getting serious slowdowns even on A1200) . PC version sound is at least same as Amiga one or maybe better this time.

Sum it up. You cant go wrong with PC version. Gameplay is indentical. Same levels.

I'd go with GOG based on the recommendation above and for the fact that the GOG copy will work across modern machines - even a laptop if you travel. This has been the kicker for me in many cases, I still own the old disks - but bought the GOG version to support GOG and have something easily playable on modern computers.

I grew up with Amiga and got a PC much later like you have.
I played through the GOG release this weekend and have to admit the PC version is better.

Also, I would add that the lack of mid-mission saving makes the game experience better but I know not everyone likes that loss of comfort. :p
Okay, you made up my mind I'm going to buy the GOG version. Would like Syndicate Wars as well though.
