Just finished the game and want to leave some notes for people that are starting the game and might not get to enjoy the game in full since they are trying to play this as a FE, FFT game.

Notice I played without the DLC

Hero
The default hero Girl is Lyndly and Boy is Devoa, some ppl call it PC, this might help with Google-Fu.
The questions guide your attributes point but IMO it wont matter much because the Hero becomes a Healer/Weird Mage.

Story
The game has 30 Chapters
The game 'change point' is in chapter 12
There are some side quests to get some stuff after Chapter 12 - Meaning there are more missions that Chapters
You can farm money, items and CP in the arena - Always use the Arena Token immediatly!!!

Story Units
Only 1 unit leaves your group during the story - And it is in Chapter 3 I think, so don't worry about wasting time in Story Units, they all stay the whole game.
They all have Traits and some good leader Traits so they are good in general.
Check their LDR and use the Medal Of Valor as per the description to get most out of it.

XP and Level
Unlike other games level doesnt matter at all, if you are under level just hitting 1 enemy pretty much give you all the levels you need to be on the same level of the map.
Grinding or overleveling doesnt work much either, the enemy does not give experience after +4 levels diference - Although you can grind in the area just a little bit.
Healing does not give XP
Surrender gives XP and CP and more. Only available after missing 3 if not mistaken.
Max level is 54 if I'm not mistaken.
Everyone gets XP at the end of the missions.
You get lots of XP books from the Area that give 1 level

CP and Class Promotion
This is how you get to promote units, earn just like XP but you only need to fill the bar once per class.
Every class has three class up tiers(T3), Dragons have T4 - Plus making the unit golden with the Proof of Merit
Class promotion have 2 complications: Resource and Attribute requirement
Resource - Some classes requires things like Horses and you need to have it for the promotion; The important detail is you don't lose the horse, if you demote the unit the horse comes back - So demote units to get the resource back is a thing.
Attributes - Some classes will need STR, MAG, SKL requirements which you might achive with level up or not but; it is a very common thing to change the unit Affinity to get the attribute, like a Fighter that has Affinity to Water will not have enough STR, change it to Fire and done you can upgrade the unit.
There are CP Books in the arena that give 500 CP.

Tech Tree
By chapter 24 your should probably be able to buy everything -if lots of surrender and Arena you could do it sooner
Academy of War give you Dragon Riders
Crafts and Technologies give you guns and cannon
You get the Scrolls as your level up your Faction point, the number os Scrolls depend on the level
After you complete the Tech Tree you start receiving Proof of Merit

Organize Army
Yes, you will spend lots of time here.
This game is a Army vs Army - You need lots of units, I've finished with 112
The story will not give you enough units ever, you will need to buy lots of units.
Every Squad has a leader, the unit is marked with a L or a Lock which means you can't disband those Squads
The game allows you to add 5 Squads in the arena, 15 Squads in the game ealier, 20 later game - You dont need to, my last missions was with 14 Squads
The Squad Leader LDR shows how many units you can add to the Squad
LDR is also used to hold artifacts for Squad
Squad leaders have Leader abilities and you can have more than one Leader ability.
Non-Leader units with Leader abilities are ignored by the engine.
Based on the unit types of most of your Squad it becomes Light, Infantry, Cavalary, etc - Meaning you can mix 4 Cavalary + 2 Archers and still remain Cavalary.
Dragons can fly
Dragons can't make horses fly
Proof of Merit is the last upgrade you can do to an unit, making it golden as stronger

Squad
The squad is a 3X3 box
Some units damage only front row, some can target back row - those are the most common
Some units damage rows, columns, random or splash - T3 units generally
Healer/Mages are usually safer in the middle column

Marketplace
Have enough money in missions with the Secret Marketplace they sell great Mercenaries(Orange) and Items(Orange) - Blue tent in the map
The color of the mercenary indicates how 'rare' it is, Orange is a MUST must buy, Dragons are MUST buy because they are real rare
Mercenaries with other colors come with Traits and upgraded, that saves you Resources and Traits books but that is not too important
Color mercenaries come with the Trait Mercenary that adds +2 to their squad cost.
By using a unit in the army it evolves from Mercenary +2 cost to Loyal -2 cost
Regular Mercenaries are cheap, and status difference dont really matter(Except for Orange) so you can bulk buy them to make your army
Regular Mercenaries get replenish as you buy in the Marketplace - Other colors dont, you need to wait for the next missions
Artifacts also have colors, but the Orange ones are great but tricky to use - So if you dont have money for it no problem, you probably get them in the arena as reward.
Buying Attribute+ items is pretty common - Don't forget to use them.
You use the Trade to exchange Iron for Gems and etc - Healers and that damn gem!!!

Money
This is the most important resource IMO.
Main sources:
* Arena gives you toons of money and items - Always buy arena tokens and USE RIGHT AWAY
* Every mission gives you money at the end of it.
* Surrender give you some change - the most important is Faction points for the tech tree IMO

Units
All their status are pretty much the same - Fill your squad as you want with generic units
Except Orange units, those are weird units - Buy and pay attention to those
Dragons are too good - damage + fly is game breaking good
Guns/Cannons are much better than Bows - Damage wise
Some story units cant be promoted outside the history
There are gender specific Classes:
Girls can be Sword Masters Boys can be Champions
Girls can be Priestess and other healing units
Boys can be mages
Girls can be Siren/Sorcess
Changin Affinity is a way to optimize the unit - You can change several times, nothing is lost in the process
Adding Traits is common, you get toons of those, if can also change the Trait later for something better - You do lose the Trait but that is ok, there are toons of books

Hope this helps you play this game, the overall game is on the easier side so Min/Max is not important that leaves you with space to create fun groups and strategies.
