Hi,
Sorry haven't read the manual yet, too busy playing the game ;)
Is there a way to reset the message log status to zero?
I just realized if the player dies while not having deciphered the received messages,
the messages show up in the next game as sort of 0% deciphered gibberish = useless forever?
So tactics like saving the messages for later until decipher skill is high is quite risky,
if you die with 20 undeciphered messages....
Otherwise loving the game, thanks gog.com for the Gold edition! (and the winter discount :)

Yes, but it's not recommended; see below.

This is not true... while it will show up as undeciphered in the SotsDex, future characters can find that same message again at a computer terminal in-game. It will still be 0% deciphered when they find it, but they'll have a chance to decipher it again. So you'll never lose out on messages, but if you die without attempting to decipher a message then you'll not have made any progress on it either.

If you really still want to re-set the messages, you can do so by deleting the file called default_profile.dat which is located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Sword of the Stars - The Pit. Note that the AppData folder is hidden. Deleting this file will reset the whole SotsDex, and probably also other things like achievements and whatnot, so again, it's not recommended.

Incidentally, if you are ever playing on a different computer, if you copy the default_profile.dat file and any save files you have over to the new machine, you can continue with your current character.

Oh, okay.
Thanks a lot! - That's some in-depth info you got!
Yeah sounds good enough for the future generations to come and decrypt some recipes :)

Edit: I'm not 100% sure but it seems even with the same character you can get the same, partly deciphered message again.
Then I deciphered it a second time to complete the message. That's how it seemed on one of my longer runs :)
