Hi!

I'm trying to play the career mode of this excellent game, but every time I click on Pre-Assault the game crashes back into the windows desktop.

I've updated the movies already, as suggested elsewhere in the forums, installed an old version of DirectX10, and tried running in compatibility mode (on and off), as well as with admin rights (on and off).

I'm running windows 7 64-bit.

Help! Please? Thanks!

Nevermind. I reinstalled DirectX, again, and this time it works. Thanks!

edit: apparently the problem happens randomly, so I'll keep trying to fix it. If anyone wants to pitch in, please feel free to do so.

The Pre Assault screen has a small video clip playing in the background UI image, its in your Swat 3 directory, called PreMovie.avi
Try playing the PreMovie.avi file in Windows Media or any video player.

If it doesn't play your problem could be with the movies.

Does the intro play when you start the game up?
I can play PreMovie.avi using VLC and Windows Media Player. I've replaced the movies for the reencoded ones.

The intro does play when I start the game.
Are you troubleshooting this problem on the GOG version?

if so, my suggestion is contrary to the forums as it involves installing the game from a different source and installing the game in it's original default location. C:\Sierra\SWAT3\

I have troubleshooted computers where the movies play with no patch required if the game is installed in the Program Files (x86) location with intermittent problems with the movies causing crashes. The same computer if Swat 3 was moved to the C:\Sierra\SWAT3 location the movies fail to play. Thus requiring the new encoded movies, but after the movie patch the problem seems to go away.

If you are interested in fixing this issue using the above technique I can be reached at www.swat3reunited.com and on TeamSpeak chicago.jestservers.com:7340

One last thought, Does Multiplayer play fine? Do you hear audio when missions load up?

Sorry for resurrecting an old post, but, if I simply install in C:\Sierra\SWAT3 I'll have no more problems? I mean, I did everything: replaced the movies, installed Xvid codec, installed the old Indeo codecs, installed Directx 10 June, and I still get the damn GENERIC DDERR error. Back when I had Vista Starter I played the game normally, but some weeks ago I formated and installed W7 Ultimate.
