If we own all the Police Quest games and SWAT 3, will we get SWAT 4 at a cheaper price?
Thanks.
I'd love for them to actually get around to releasing SWAT 4 here first. There's no reason not to, the multiplayer is officially dead.

I don't know what it is with SWAT 4, but it's not available anywhere online anymore - not even on Steam. It might be some asinine license issue that's keeping it from getting a release again, but hopefully those issues whatever they are will be resolved sometime soon.

SWAT 4 was only available on Direct2Drive, and then they got bought out by Gamefly and a LOT of stuff got delisted. Now apparently, some of it has come back, but this hasn't, along with Farhenheit and Manhunt 2. Those last two were permanently delisted because Gamefly didn't want to sell AO rated games in their store, but that doesn't explain why SWAT 4 is still missing. Maybe Irrational Games holds more say in the games they make than we think.
Please, SWAT4 needs to live on.

Please.

I would LOVE to play SWAT 4 again. I used to play that all the time. I never even went online; the single player campaign was just so friggin' time consuming.

I hope it's not the same sort of situation that No One Lives Forever faced, wherein nobody seemed to have the rights to the series any more (though recently, at least for NOLF, they were re-discovered).
You could vote for on the GOG.com wishlist ! ;)
Isn't SWAT 4 basically abandonware now? Who would get the money, if GoG were to sell it?

That is not an actual legal status. Someone or some entity still hold the rights to the intellectual property, even if the paper trail is hard to follow. I don't believe any computer software has ever been elevated into the public domain in any court. Rights remain with the creator or holder indefinitely, the only exception being a workaround law that makes musical compositions public domain if the composer has been dead for over 70 years. That of course also assumes the rights were not signed over to an evil music label company at some point as is the case with about 99% of the music sold today.
It belongs to Take-Two Interactive.

You sure? I thought Activision took over all of the old Sierra titles.

Take-two bought out Irrational Games yes but they were just the developers of Swat 4. All the rights belonged to Vivendi and then eventually Activision when their games division shut down.

Maybe, but Activsion publishers here, so it wouldn't be a problem. Take Two doesn't I think.

Activision can be a little strange though. We contacted them through a community manager to see if we can get the source code to Swat 3 and they wouldn't give it to us. Apparently it would have cost them too much money to pay someone to go through the source code to determine if there was 3rd party code in there that they weren't allowed to give out (possibly just an excuse though?)

Maybe something strange like that is going on. Swat 4 used Gamespy for multiplayer but they are completely defunct I think unless someone now still owns the rights.

Perhaps it is just that they are keeping the door open for a Swat 5 if they want and they don't want you to buy Swat 4. Corporations can be strange in their thinking.

Sucks they can't/won't find out the availability of the game.

Love to see it on here, Steam, etc. Long as it's available.

Guess buying the disc and doing the updates is the only way for now.
Bumping this thread up, because I really want my Swat 4 on GOG.com, please who ever has the license and GOG make the game available for sale soon :''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''')
