trying to run the base game, I get the following error, and would appreciate any help on the matter:

"./MarsGOG: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I'm aware that if i downgrade my OS to 18.04 or previous, that they would use the depreciated version of Libssl that I require for this game, but I'd prefer to find a workaround, or perhaps find a way to coax the developers to fix this minor issue of using a veritably old version of a secure socket layer library.

as system info is usually requested, I've included it below.

The solution to your problem can be found here:

/forum/hyper_light_drifter/shared_library_error_libcryptoso100_or_libsslso100

it works with every version OVER 1.0.0, since they are down-compatible.

No they are not. Ubuntu 19.04 ships with libssl.1.1 which, as many google searches will tell you is NOT compatible with 1.0.0

This game is not compatible with 19.04 until they post a patch...

In the meanwhile here are instructions on how to get it working in Ubuntu 19.04:

1. Download libssl1.0.0 from ubuntu repos: security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/o/openssl1.0/libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu6.2_amd64.deb
2. Do not install it, instead, unpack it (I used midnight commander), and copy libcrypt and libssl to ~/GOG Games/Surviving Mars/game directory.
3. Start the game...
