Is that an alternate piece of concept art they never used, or does gog doctor them up to avoid stepping on legal toes?

I believe that's actually the cover art from Stronghold Crusader Extreme. Its a little wierd that GOG is using it for the original Stronghold Crusader.

I originally thought that GOG had gotten Extreme. Then was a little disappointed when i realized it was just the original.

Actually this art is from the original Crusader - it was probably never use in marketing because it just looks silly.
In Extreme version of this pic you can also see burning arrows etc. in the background

on official game site, on official wallpapers etc there is exactly the same artwork.
