Hello,

Been looking around trying to find a solution, but no luck.

Just bought the game and when I try to start it, I can hear the game sound starting but my monitor will periodically flash black.

I have no option but to close the game through the Task manager to make it stop.

The store page clearly says that the game is supported with Windows 8 so I'm a bit puzzled (and annoyed to say the least).

Does anyone know what I need to do to "fix" their release so I can play what I paid for? =)

Sorry for the negative tone but I'm quite annoyed that these releases are sold when they clearly have issues. =(
The issue can't be so clear because it works here without issues on Windows 8.1.

You should contact supprt.
I had the same problem, and then simply started it in compatibility mode for Windows 8. It works fine now!
I had a similar problem. This solution worked for me. Your results may differ.

Right-click the icon you launch the game from and select "Properties."
Click on the "Comparability" tab to select it.
Check the box beside "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings."
Click the "Apply" button, then click the "OK" button.

Play the game.

Additional Info:
I have Windows 8.1

I did not need to run the game in a comparability mode.

Also, before running the Stronghold Extreme HD game it asked me if I wanted to install DirectPlay and I installed it. I don't know how well Stronghold HD or Stronghold Extreme HD run without it.

If your game won't start in Windows 8.1, you may try to restart it.Or you can try to use Windows Boot Genius that may help with you.

I can't play this game on Windows 8.1. :(

This is the error I get:
---------------------------
Stronghold.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.
---------------------------

@MrNybbles: The high-DPI checkbox is disabled and greyed out for me, but it is checked. Hmm..

I'm having the same problem with a few GOG games. I've already tried compatibility mode, running as administrator, etc. but i still get the 0xc0000022 error

Oh sure now I see this is a 3 year old post

Hey there. Solution from https://steamcommunity.com/app/40950/discussions/0/535152276592106043/ works. I have had the same "(...)22" issue. Details:

"Go to Control Panel, then find Turn Windows features on or off, and under Legacy Components check DirectPlay, and then hit OK. Wait for a while for your PC to finish with everything, and the PC will need to reboot as well. It's all done in few minutes."
