I wish to run Stronghold HD in a window. This proves to be an issue. I've heard of people running it in a window using dxwnd, and I've tried, but all I can accomplish is stronghold.exe running in the background. It may have been the original version however.
Still, does anyone know the required settings to do this? Or any alternative solutions?
I'm running Windows 8 x64.

Most important setting is primary surface emulation. Other option is just to make it run proper an smooth
Beside that, you need old version of dxwnd, probaly before 2.2.22 (lol). I also unable to run SH with the recent release of dxwnd

It worked for me with dxwnd and this config, even streaming the window in discord.
Paste this in notepad and as e.g. stronghold.dxw and load in dxwnd and adjust the launch path:
