I encountered a strange problem while attempting to use the modding tools

Every time i try to start "SPG2ModManager" or "MaterialEditor" or "ScyptCompiler" from the game folder an error occur, saying that i need steam_api.dll to use the program...?

Did i forgot something during installation? Quite sure with the gog version i shouldn't need steam to run Any part of this game, modding tools included

As far as I know, modding is a bit of problem with GoG version due to GoG's packer. But not sure why it asks for Steam API. Will check with our lead programmer.

I can confirm this is an existing problem with the latest version posted on GoG. Is there any update on this issue?

Mod Manager was made to work with Steam Workshop. We will sort it out so you can use it as a standalone editor. I cannot confirm when, since we are up to our necks in DLC development so that is not our first priority, to be honest.

All mods on Workshop are compatible with GoG version of the game, it's just the editor that was made for Steam.

Modding is essentially broken in GOG version, according to the game devs they officially support game modding through steam at least according to the steam page. My guess is that they will eventually come around to fixing the GOG issue if it all. Any time they release a patch for their steam copies the GOG users have to wait two to three weeks before we get our updates.

On the other hand you can mod your game yourself without the need for any special editors at the moment. Game scripting is essentially just editing text files in the following or similar folder....

"C:\GOG\Starpoint Gemini II\Spg2\Models\Ships\"

All .shp files are text files that can be renamed to ****.shp.txt edited and renamed back to ****.shp.

Yes, you can mod to some extent, but there is still a problem that after we send the game build to GoG, they repack it with their packager and modders can't open those files after that. We will try to do something about it in the future. Right now, we're working on DLC 24/7 so we can deliver new content as soon as possible. There are 10 of us so we can't do many different things at once. :-/

I'm not sure how GOG handles its uploads, but couldn't you just use the traditional zip file for tools/updates/dlc?

GoG packs the game, not us. ;)
