I'm enjoying the game a lot. I am currently at level 6 and just completed the housekeeper mission. My teams is Smuggler, Force Psyker, Soldier, Void Psyker.

What is the level cap?

Is Hacker the only class that can handle traps? I pretty much fail at every security node, but my team is great in combat.

Does it make sense to carry more than four crawlers? Won't I need to constantly rotate them in to maintain their levels?

Or is it possible to dismiss a crawler and hire a new one of the same class?

A & D keys do not turn. Is that because by default free look is enabled?

Does it matter which class is my main?
1. Level cap is 30 currently (should be higher with New Game+, I think, which will be available only on release, I guess).

2. Prototype can handle nanites and turrets. Other than that you want either a Hacker or an Autocipher item. Safes can be broken into with item as well but it will cost you (never tried myself, as my main is usually a Hacker). Some hackable things in story missions can be solved by looking around.

3. I haven’t seen any reason to have more than 4 crawlers, personally, since you can’t take them all on a mission.

4. You can’t dismiss a crawler, but he can die. Although I don’t think that unlocks his class back. (Not sure on this one).

5. No idea here. Probably.

6. Some classes are harder to start than others (that would be Void Psyker in my experience, for example), especially if you can’t scrap enough money to hire someone else. Plus only your main can have backstory bonuses (those differ between classes). Some characters can react to your choice of childhood when you create your main, but that doesn’t really depend on a class.
Thank you for the answers.

I scrapped the prototype because I figured I would keep it on a fresh start after release.

I know it's early, but the biggest issues I have are laser bars and poison gas. I often see these hackable nodes, but when I try it my Soldier or Force Psyker botches it.

I assumed that the smuggler was an alternative to the hacker because they are both sort of like rogues. I also liked the idea of talking my way out of trouble, but it has not happened yet. There was one time it was offered, but I had a better option as a Gunslinger (Shot the leader and sent the security patrol running).

You should invest a bit in Medkits (especially since you have a Void Psyker with you). Even with a Hacker I am sometimes in a situation where I have to step through lasers. Twice. Plus there are some skills that offer a roundabout way to heal yourself. There is also an accessory that heals you 5% of max HP whenever you down an enemy. Immensely useful (unless it’s a boss battle).

And Hackers also botch things sometimes, though that does not happen as often as with others. There was a mini-game before that allowed you to hack manually but it wasn’t quite good so it was scrapped for now.
