For some reason when I try to enter my pilot's name nothing happens. Actually the game doesn't ever appear to respond to my keyboard at all. It's an old Saitek Eclipse II, usb. Never had this problem with any other games. Has anyone else had this problem?

On my system, the mouse pointer is completely black and borderless, making it impossible to see on the mostly black screen. Are you sure you clicked in the box where you type your name?

That is the only suggestion I have, I'm afraid.

I'm experiencing the same problem in both X-Wing and Tie Fighter 1998 versions. Everything works fine in the 1993 versions. I've got an old Dell keyboard that I use. But, same deal as above. Can't type anything in at all in the 1998 versions of the games.

I'm pretty sure I did. I can see the cursor blinking, just when I type nothing happens.

I'm having the same issue. Using a Logitech G710+ keyboard on Windows 8.1
I was having a similar issue. For some reason, my mouse is black, and the background is dark making it impossible to see. I kept moving the mouse around, until I could locate it against a lighter color, then dragged it down to enter the name to register. When picking a name, I thought I read in the read me file that 15 letters was the max.
I'm having the same problem as well. My laptop keyboard doesn't register nor does my Logitech wireless keyboard. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I'm having the same problem here. No response from laptop keyboard or wireless USB keyboard.

I found a fix. Make sure that the Administrator settings are down to nothing in the User accounts in the Control Panel, and run the game as an Administrator by right clicking on the executable short cut to launch.

I tried this today with no luck. Still having the same keyboard issue. Anyone else found a fix yet?
Bump.
I tried all of the fixes mentioned, and none of them worked. Finally I tried a different keyboard, a Logi G19s, and it works fine. Guess it was the keyboard?
