Hello everybody, I got an X-55 the other day so I made a profile for it, here it is!

It is intended for the DOS version, but with some changes it will work with the 1998 Windows versions.
To do that, set Trigger and C to Fall Back in H.U.D., and in the game joystick options, set C (Button 3) to Alt-3: Roll/Target Ship In Sights.

http://www.mediafire.com/view/a6q3jb43au8epvo/XWingTIE.pr0

STICK:
Trigger: Fire Weapon
B: Select Weapon
D: Link Fire Setting
C: Roll/Select Target In Sights
A: Beam Weapon

POV hat: Look around. Forward to look up.

Hat 2 (lower): Targeting controls
L: Next Target
R: Prev Target
U: Target Nearest Enemy Fighter
D: Target Nearest Ship Attacking Me

Hat 1 (upper): Seldom used more specific targeting controls:
L: Next Component
R: Prev Component
U: Target Newest Craft
D: Target Nearest Attacker of Current Target

THROTTLE:
Left Throttle: Smooth Throttle (Disable to get rid of constant beeping when moving throttle, but then throttle only works in 33% increments)
Right Throttle: 33% Increment Throttle (Don't unbind this, even with Smooth Throttle, it keeps it in bounds)

Rotary 1 - Increase/Decrease Laser Recharge
Rotary 2 - Increase/Decrease Shield Recharge
Rotary 3 - Increase/Decrease Beam Recharge
NOTE: For best rotary performance, change their curves to J mode, and set both X SAT and Y SAT to 850.
This makes the gauge max out and bottom out with the rotary, as if it was directly mapped.
K1 U/D and Scroll Fwd/Back: Shield <-> LaserEnergy Redirecting

BRK (either way presses once) - SLAM Boost/S-Foils
F Push: Confirm Order
G Push: Set Shield Distribution

H: Hold for Threat Display
I: Targeting Mode (for X-Wing)

Hat 3 (upper): Arrow keys for menu navigation
E : Match Speed/Menu confirm

Hat 4 (lower): Wingman orders
R: Attack My Target (Shift-A)
L: Cover Me (Shift-C)
U: Repair/Rearm Me (Shift-B)
D: Ignore My Target (Shift-I)

TGL 4 Down: ESC Menu
TGL 1 Up: Map screen
TGL 2 Up: Damage Assessment

Mouse Nub R: Damage Assessment screen
Mouse Nub L: Map screen
Mouse Nub U: Mission Goals screen
Mouse Nub D: Threat Display screen

MODE 2: Totally unnecessary, but it feels cool turning a knob and then a switch to spin up the hyperdrive! Also ensures you don't accidentally quit or eject
BRK (either way presses once) :Start/Stop Hyperdrive
Hold E for 3 secs: Quit Mission
Hold G Push for 2 secs: Eject
Hat 4 L/R: Increase/Decrease Time Compression (Alt T)
Stick POV: Acts as mouse (for Windows concourse navigation)

Very nice work, thanks a lot for this!
I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could answer, how did you get around Tie Fighter and X-Wing not recognizing two usb devices? Maybe this has been asked and answered, but I haven't seen it.

You set the regular joystick device as the main device. The throttle doesn't actually supply the game with any axis data, it is all done through the profile to press keys.

So, the throttle and everything still works as normal then? I ask because I'm about to get a HOTAS and really want the X55. On a side note, I'm also looking at primarily playing XvT. If the X55 works with X-wing and Tie Fighter, it should work with XvT, right?
thx for this!
Interesting, I might use it as a base for my future CH HOTAS Tie Fighter profile, when I'll finally get the throttle.

The stick software profile sends keystrokes, essentially the throttle is treated as a slider and having Tie Fighter four sped presets (stop, 1/3, 2/3 and full throttle) you can assign the respective keystrokes to the throttle using the software, I did the same with the mini-throttle on my stick and I'll do it for the CH Pro Throttle once I manage to buy one.

XvT and the windows version of Tie fighter should recognize the throttle as the Z axis if the stick and throttle of any given HOTAS are treated as a single peripheral by windows, and I guess it should be the case with both the Saitek HOTASes and the Thrustmaster HOTAS X.

The difference is that in the DOS version the throttle will just cicle through the speed presets while in XvT it will act as a real throttle axis.

I'm having trouble getting my x55 to work in tie fighter, when i try to launch the game i get the message you need a joystick to play make sure it is connected. if i select the throttle in device manager and set it to be used with old games the game will load but not recognize my joystick only the throttle.

Windows version I gather...?
The problemis that Tie Fighter only supports one device, most programmable sticks and HOTASes have a function that lets you swap the axis between the peripherals to compensate.

The tie figher windows engine only supports three axes, x and y for the stick and z for the throttle, go in the saitek software (I don't have a saitek stick but *I guess* there should be a similar function somewhere) and make sure to disable all additional axes or to assign them to a secondary virtual peripheral and make sure the x,y and z axes are under the same primary device then map the all buttons other than 1 and 2 manually in the software.

Try this:

In the Windows searchbar enter joy.cpl, click on 'Advanced', then set the joystick as the preferred device.
Now run TIE Fighter and see if it works.

OK this profile seems to work apart from being able to shoot or rotate.

Please can someone explain what this first part of this message meant...

"To do that, set Trigger and C to Fall Back in H.U.D., and in the game joystick options, set C (Button 3) to Alt-3: Roll/Target Ship In Sights."

What HUD? Where? How?
