The game doesn't start at all. It launches the main menu but whenever I start the game it ends in a black screen and gives the error message "europa.exe has stopped working". I tried all resolutions and all compatibility modes to no avail. Any suggestions?

OK. I downloaded starfighter without galaxy and did a "dirty install" by just installing it over the existing files.
Then I made a shortcut to the "europa.exe" within the game folder and it works.

Maybe it's better to do a clean install by first removing the game.

I also experienced that the launcher (the main menu) hangs on first launch. On second launch it starts but it uses to much CPU resources. I had to kill the process "rundll32" to reduce the CPU load to normal.

I had the very same problem.

Using GOG Galaxy for this, on Windows 8.1.

I've solved it, and have run the game and played to the second mission.
Solution for me:

1. on Galaxy game page, click the button MORE (next to the PLAY button),
2. Hover the mouse over 'Manage Instalation', and then select 'Verify/Repair...'
3. Let GOG Galaxy do its thing,
4. Click PLAY on Galaxy game page,
5. PROFIT!!!!11 (ahem...the game NOW runs!)

Note that the problem was after first installation of the game using GOG Galaxy. No messing with game folder was required for this.

I can't get this to work... I tried changing the compatibility on the .exe and the launcher also the other exe file in the game folder I forgot its name, tried just starting the game using that exe and also running as admin but it always results in a black screen the direct play is installed also even reinstalled the game..

Running Win10 ver 1607 on a MSI Apache Pro laptop... any help is appreciated guys thanks !
