The keyboard is not working for text input when I try to create a new character in Rogue Squadron. The game starts normally, and I can use the escape, enter, and spacebar keys to skip the cinematic intro. However, when I click to create a new character from the start menu, I can't enter text or even just hit Enter to select the default name suggestion. The arrow keys allow me to move the cursor, and the delete key will let me remove text (although backspace doesn't work correctly).

Has anyone else had this issue with this game?

Thanks!

I'm experiencing the same thing, while using D3DWindower for what it's worth (getting a "Could not initialize HAL" error without it). I also find that the right-side Windows key (if you have one) will type a backslash as well, but all other keyboard input is useless.

I got it to work once, which seemed to be a result of me turning off Wizmouse (which is a nice tool used to scroll in background windows, but sometimes messes with games) but I was never able to get it working again after that. That instance allowed me to create a character but I still haven't gotten the joystick working.

I'd like to be encouraging of people working on this and appreciate all the amazing help people have been giving on the forum, but I have to warn you I've spent most of the day on this and am probably just going to wait to see if GOG ever churns out some fixes. (Haven't heard from them in almost two days, though I suppose things might slow down on weekends.)

Thanks for the suggestions, but still no dice for me. I tried turning off KatMouse and Alt-Drag, two programs I have that interact with the keyboard. I also tried unplugging my wacom tablet to disable the onscreen keyboard, but none of those things solved the problem. I can replicate the left windows key typing a backslash, but still the Enter key will not allow me to create a new character.
I can't even create a new character in Rogue Squadron on my end even after following the directions on the forum. I can't even use enter or escape to progress or exit resulting in me having to use the task manager to exit. I have been waiting for a long time to finally play Rogue Squadron again but the fact that I can't even get past the character creation really is frustrating.
Possible solution: For me, this issue is a direct result of changing the filename of the "Rogue Squadron.EXE" executable, which I did in order to get D3DWindower to recognize it. Using the original filename completely eliminates this problem. Unfortunately that means the Windower no longer works, so that may cause you another problem depending on your situation.
I have the similar problem with Chinese Windows 8.1. what I'm doing is install the ENG(US)
keyboard layout and activate it, now I can input English text in the passcode entry box.
